Chipstead-little talent but plenty of gamesmanship. It was sad to watch them constantly hassle the officials, contesting almost every decision-plenty of swearing at the referee.Having seen their style of play it is not  such a mystery as to how the Bracknell result happened. It was difficult for the ref.who I was told was in his first season at this level. However I was amazed at how he dealt with the sending off-Hibbert was badly fouled from a tackle on the back of his legs and also as he was sent to the ground. He kicked back and was given a red-our free kick but a yellow for them.Dangerous play-laughable decision.

A good performance-I agree the midfield was excellent with Daryl & Dom not putting a foot wrong. We have got off to a good start although Hertford & Ashford had very limited attacking abilities and I do worry about our central defence when we come up against better opposition.I do not think that Sol is up to the standard required and although he may be a good leader but he does not set a good example as a captain by constantly disputing decisions with the officials-this attitude does not work in the team's favour and I think has cost us on quite a few occasions. However,it is all about opinions.I am very pleased with the quality of the squad and look forward to what I think will be a very good season.

During the last couple of weeks our midfield & defensive situation has been weakened considerably by the loss of Saidou & Lexus so I think it was quite important that by the time of the last couple of friendlies we should have been fielding our likely first team line up rather than having numerous mix & match options.I still feel confident about this season but I would just say that if it is intended to base our central defence & right wing back options around Sol P. B. & Dean Hamlin,I think this would be a mistake.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Dave McCann & Martin Harvey » 09/8/2019 6:01 pm

-Sad news-as the years pass by we lose another stalwart or two.Their hearts were truly in the club-Dave gave so much time in various duties over such a long period.Condolences to their families & friends.

Quite agree Andy-I do not think a lot of people realised just how much he controlled our midfield. His ball skills were superb-always aware of players around him and was so capable of giving the accurate defence splitting pass and his driving forward runs from defence to attack were a delight to watch. If you add to this his tremendous strength as a ball winner you have the almost perfect midfielder.Great shame-good luck Saidou.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Bedfont Sports tonight » 06/2/2019 9:27 pm

The talent at our club is exceptional-let's not beat about the bush,we were a class above the opposition for the whole game. The quality of our passing & movement was a delight to watch-if only we could convert a small percentage of our chances Bedfont would have been embarrassed. The spirit & determination of this squad is first class and when something goes against them they just step up the pace.It was disappointing to lose another player to a straight red and this is unlike Khan(he had received a couple of heavy late tackles in the first half and I think he was a bit upset).Unfortunately,it was a pity because he was showing what a tremendous attacking/controlling midfielder he is.We did make the right decision with the starting line-up by not starting with Danny Bassett who has been a bit off his best form in the last few games and he was raring to go when he came on.Welldone to Dontal Stewart when he started with just a few minutes to go-he got straight into the game strongly providing a pin point cross for Danny to score.

Replying to a few points raised re. Saturday's game - I do agree Tim,as I said in my post, everybody will have their own views on team selection and that will always be the case. You are also right that Saidou gave the ball away in the second half (I counted twice) but honestly I have failed to understand the continued use of Sol within the squad and as a captain-the quality is not there.I would also say in response to another point raised elsewhere regarding possession not always winning games-of course not in our case because we do not convert a sufficient number of the chances we create but what it does do is ensure we do not undergo almost 45 minutes of unrelenting pressure and not just what was described as some nervous moments.
Just on another matter,is there any news on the return of Lexus Beadon-we keep reading another week etc.I look forward to his return as I believe it will improve our defence immensely.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Chalfont St Peter 0 Tooting 2 » 06/1/2019 7:44 pm

i saw the game yesterday differently to Andy Mc.- in the first half we played excellent football showing first class control & quick close passing. We dominated the play & looked a class above Chalfont-we had them on the back foot with Dominic really up for the task & Khan alongside really running the game through our midfield.Up front Stefan Ilic demonstrated what a prospect he is and Hady Ghandour showed great skill & movement.Aspecial mention must be made of Daryl Coleman who was superb throughout in a defensive midfield role.I fail to understand the management decision to start with Jordan Wilson playing wide on the right & being kept on for the whole game.
So now the second half where our naive tactics & poor use of substitutes now changed the game & put us on the back foot-we sat back to defend & conceded control of the game instead of introducing pace on the wings-if we had done this I feel sure we would have had no problem in finishing off any challenge with ease.Instead of adjusting our tactics as Chalfont did we had to defend the whole of the second half and although we did this well thanks to the aerial ability of Simeone & Coleman we allowed the opposition to get strongly into the game. The introduction of Sol P.B. was baffling & removal of players like Khan plainly poor thinking. It was also apparent that nearly all attacking threats int his half came from their left wing side.
Anyway congratulations to the team for what was a very good performance but as I said earlier this season I like the style of play that Ashley & Cornelius aim for and we all have different ideas on starting line ups but in my opinion b out your use of substitutes is very poor.Any way onwards & upwards.

The Barmy Bog End Army » ware town » 11/11/2018 9:34 pm

When wlll Ashley & Cornelius begin to realise that Sol is not a suitable captain-yesterday he almost certainly cost the team two points. This is not a one off example where his indiscipline is counter productive-he is constantly arguing with the officials and this certainly has an adverse effect regarding their attitude towards us.Moving on to the game yesterday,I   Ware were an absolute disgrace- they took it in turns to scythe Isiah down-presumably to avoid any one player receiving a red-they were satisfied with yellow.I hope Isiah recovers quickly-it was fortunate that his injury was not more serious. The Ware bench seemed to find it all quite amusing, but they will get there comeuppance-what goes around comes around.
One final point,I was glad to see Razzaq has not left the club.
PS.Playing Elijah Simpson out wide is not suited to him in my opinion as we need more mobility & pace in that position and that is  not a criticism of Elijah.

Alan,in my line up Lexus would take the place of Sol and with no disrespect to Sol would be a definite upgrade. Also Dee Pee,just to put your mind at rest,I keep many of my players incognito-I was of course referring to our new midfielder Clarence Coleman.

This was probably our most complete all round performance of this season. As I said after the 50/50 farce at Egham-we have more than enough quality in our squad to outperform the vast majority of the teams in this league and this is starting to look like the true position.Ashley's tactics at the back have been revised and we are not getting caught out by the simple long ball over the top.I am really pleased to see that Isiah is playing each game and what skill, pace & bravery he shows-he knows he is going to be kicked alarmingly but this does not phase him.It is nice to see Odoh,Tope & Hady Ghandour consistently featuring in the squad-although I do hope that the rumour I have heard that Razzaq Coleman has left the club is not true as ,if so,we have lost a very talented player who performed excellently but did not receive fair selection treatment in return. The signing of the midfielder Ashley Coleman is a good one and Simeone, who has always been a good reader of the game, although he may lack a bit of pace, adds so much at the back with his superb heading ability-wins everything. Finally, looking forward to Lexus coming back in which with his extra strength should give us one of the most powerful defences in the league.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Watching the points drift away. » 14/10/2018 8:40 pm

During my many years of watching Tooting,i must admit that I felt really disappointed & let down at Cheshunt yesterday-not by the effort & part performance of the team but with the inaction of  Ashley over the course of the game.Over the first half hour we had the game firmly under control, making the opposition look very ordinary then Daryl Coleman's rash tackle left us with 10 men.It was probably only a yellow but he did not need to do it-there was no danger in a midfield area. Then of course Sol went over the top with his protests & got a yellow-same old story. However once we composed ourselves,it became clear that we were quite capable of winning the game.Never the less,as we went into the second half we needed that bit of extra punch & pace up front to put them on the back foot.So with Isiah Jones sitting on the bench we left him there(Ashley -you must be joking).Abraham Odoh & Tope should have been given a start as well.We then gradually drifted out of the running as the silly goals started to come.Ashley I do want to continue to believe in you-I firmly believe in the youth aspect but your team selection & use of substitutes is truly appaling.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Not making the most of our squad. » 01/10/2018 6:32 pm

I arrived at Aveley on Saturday and knew as soon as I saw the line up thae would be fighting a losing battle. The signing of a new midfield player (who looked adequate) does not mean that you can leave your best midfield player sitting (not for the first time) on the bench.Dominic is a very skilful,powerful,non-stop player who instils impetus into the team.In addition you do not move Tope (who is developing into a good quick defender who passes the ball accurately out from the back) aside to make way for Sol P.Bonner.Up until the last couple of games Kadeem has been playing in almost every game but in my opinion, although skilful,he is not strong enough & too easily &off the ball whereas I thing that Odoh is a very useful player and although on the petite size is forceful, aggressive & can change the pattern of play in a game.As a final point I was disappointed that Razzaq & Elijah Simpson were not given enough games together up front as I thought they were starting to look powerful & quick along side each other.
I noticed that Ashley seemed to look quite satisfied with the way things were going towards the end & then the master stroke of bringing on Billy Dunn.We have enough strength within this squad to compete & beat the vast majority of ordinary teams within this league but we must eliminate being caught out at the back but the simple long ball from the back over our defence.

The Barmy Bog End Army » The Hayes game & the season so far. » 05/9/2018 10:25 am

Having given a lot of thought to the above subject,my views are as follows.I am totally in favour of trying to progress the club with the policy of using home grown talent-this may or may not work but I am hopeful and personally have confidence in Ashley & Cornelius-time will tell. There are several very talented players within the squad & we are capable of playing excellent attacking football. This however is where we currently have a major problem- we are a fast, quick passing side and require mobility up front.Isiah Jones is a fine player who achieves this but I would urge Ashley not to show misplaced loyalty to Billy Dunn who is obviously unfit. He does not hold up or win the ball in the air & we cannot afford to carry on with this line up- this is Billy as he is now not Billy the exceptional player of several years ago.I feel we have let a minimum of 3 points go so far this season by not scoring goals that our overall performance has deserved.
An obvious alternative up front seems ready made in Razzak Coleman who in 3 brief appearances has shown great ball control, pace & ability to hold up the ball & then lay off quality passes. Finally I would agree with other views in respect of Saturday's game, that Danny Bassett does not look happy as an attacking wing back- he is a good player but not a defender and most problems did come from the Hayes left wing.I always thought Tope was a very decent defender.I am also looking forward to seeing Eddie Dines recapture his fine form of last season.
