I was saddened to hear a minority of so called Terror fans behind the goal, come out with such abuse. The language was appalling and I don't care what provoked it it shouldn't happen. How does that look to the rest of us Terrors supporters, away supporters and any neutrals? My wife was going to come today and after what I told her I don't think she will ever come again. What about all the kids there? We are supposed to be at the forefront of promoting the younger teams.
Wharever the reasons, whatever player, and there seemed to be many by the abuse some of the Whyteleafe players were getting, this behaviour cannot be allowed to continue. I have supported this team for many a year, and after today I have really questioned if I want to continue.
Remember we represent T&M and we don't want to get a reputation for foul mouth supporters. Also all teams and that includes ours, will at some stage anger a supporter, but no way act like this. Never, never.

Agreed...
I normally stay behind in the bar for a drink and to watch the results come through with Anthony. I took him straight home after the game as I didn't want him to see anymore of the verbal abuse dished out to Whyteleafe players.
There is a fine line between banter and abuse and the line was crossed Saturday. There's normally a good bit of wit and humor in the p*ss takes etc.. But this was just nasty and stupid.
We had loads of kids there running around in their TM Kickers kits and loads of parents walking around.. God only knows what they thought of things.
We are trying hard to get more young kids and families into games and this would have done us no favours at all.
Their goalie was hardly blameless to start with but seeing as what he put up with I think he was well within his rights to have a go back.
At the end one of the Whyteleafe players walked up to the end to talk to either a family member or one of their supporters.. He had not as far as I recall done anything to wind up any of the Bog End during the game but he got loads of abuse from a couple of our supporters which I thought might end in a fight.
During the game I watched Anthony tell one of the Stewards that a young girl had fallen over on the terraces and the Steward turned his back of the "Little" man and ignored him.. Great.....
I went home and then tried to explain to a 10 year boy that he shouldn't go round yelling and swearing at people or players no matter what others are doing and saying around him.
I'm still wound up over this. It's 2015 gents not 1975 or 1985.

I missed the game on Monday so I can't comment on the details, but in general the best abuse is dished out in relation to the actual football. But if you just unleash a tirade of swear words, that is just wrong. Especially at football, and especially at non league where anything that is shouted can be heard right round the ground. Nothing wrong with the actual swear words, but they need to used in conjunction with a witty/cutting comment. And they need to be used sparingly otherwise they lose their effect on the target of the abuse. A string of swear words won't really affect an opposition player, but may well affect our own supporters.
I would urge the behind the goal crowd to limit the swearing, and hopefully stop the use of the word confucius altogether.

No I think that it intimidates the oppositition!! Nothing wrong with it for me. And why is this being brought up now?
I remember loads of verbal abuse before I went to Spain, for example when Newton got sent off.

With all respect you weren't there...
It didn't intimidate Whyteleafe it made them more up for beating us.
Their players were laughing at the bog end
There were children there under 10 years of age watching and listening to it all.
This was far and away worse than anything I've seen up at Tooting and Mitcham.
And it's being brought up now because it was bang out of order....
We want to attract supporters not drive them away.

Mr Hackbridge - thanks to the great little man for his concern about Mia (who had fallen and bumped her head on one of the terrace railings).
She's ok now with just a bit of a lump on top of the bonce - whilst I and her sister were with her only Sam and Dawn Danger (the Streatham Ice Hockey bos's wife) came to offer any assistance - many thanks to them both - the young stewards were indeed on the face of it not really interested. To be fair to them, whether or not they got on the radio to report it I don't know and I would think that apart from collecting errant balls lobbed in to the crowd I doubt they would have been of much use anyway.
Re the abuse - I only got on to the terrace for some of the second half and it certainly was the worst I've ever heard. Yes, the Whyteleafe players weren't helping at all with their comments and gestures (a couple of their players offered to take it further in the car park after the game !) and the rough handling of our players but it all got a bit too much near the end, and the way their No 2 was vilified was pretty poor - what he'd said to justify what he got I have no idea but he gave it back big time.
A not to be repeated excercise. The "Bog End" terrace MUST reign this in now before a reputation is earned ! Hmmmmmmm, let's see if the League get involved too now ?

Must've been bad - also I've seen on the forum that our own players were being shouted at!!

Could not agree with you more "Harry" what a poor example was set by the small minority.
What I would say to them is, if you were there for the first time with your young son or daughter, listening to that kind of disgusting language, for which there is no excuse, would you want to bring them again, I think not.
Banter with opposition players, especially the goalkeeper, is an accepted part of the game, and used in the correct manner can be quite funny, but as has been said previously, to hurl foul mouthed abuse at any one in an opposition shirt must encourage them to greater effort.
Offline
From my position on the half way line I fully agree with HH, the abuse aimed at the Leafe players did nothing but encourage them.
The few hotter heads who wanted to get involved were encouraged by the wiser sages to simply laugh it off, which they did.
And that abuse of the player simply saying goodbye to his Father was of the cowardly kind where you keep shouting from the other side of a barrier whllst walking away from the scene at speed.
Very brave indeed.
Deepee - I have forwarded your comments on stewarding to Lyn as I don't believe she subjects herself to this Forum. More important things to do like raising vital money for charity and dishing out Easter Eggs to sick kids at local hospitals. (Did every poster on here contribute?)

If I get wind of anything unsavoury at the game - in conjunction with any punishment handed out by the club or league whoever it is can kiss goodbye to posting on here ever again...from what I heard it was disgraceful...

Maarlon it is being brought up now because it was so bad, that's why. It is a game of football and nothing matters in comparison to what's going on in the outside world. Banter goes on and that is part of the game but Monday overstepped the mark big time.
Yes Bondy most of us know what a great job Lyn does and that is why she got honoured for it. I couldn't attend the AGM this year but always contribute to her collection. That is not to say I haven't given to some other worthy cause.
No doubt the result contributed to this vile behaviour, but that is no excuse. Cut it out.

I know what I saw and heard and must agree with gregb. Ceesay shouldn't have got involved, difficult I know when you are getting abuse.
Offline
It was banter to start with then Ceesay said Tooting are a Rubbish club, unsurprisingly it was going to get more heated after that. Ceesay could easily have ignored it and it would have died down, not great from some of our fans but Ceesays behaviour was equally as bad.

Mr administrator....... I have kept some of the messages you posted in the past.... they are as disghraceful as the swearing which has been identified on this forum.. This is not the first time by a long way that our fans have been disgusting at matches, its being going on for a long while now. I agree its ok when it's only batter and what seems in the spirit of the game, but it's another when the vile language which can be heard all over the ground. I thought Non League Football was supposed be the friendly side of Footbal and the real roots of the game,!
Talk about the "kettle calling the pot black"............Perhaps this forum should be shut down and run by someone who is actually involved with the club.
Members club over to you

Well said...and if I can take a step back and assess the situation, delete, reassess and be constructive, then surely you can Mr mikem.
It's very enlightening to know that what is said in banter stays as banter, but when the pernicious attempts to call people out and try to antagonsie them on forums is just as pathetic as the language being spoke about here at football grounds, I feel very sorry for you.
If you have a trait of copying what is said on forums and keeping them, then good for you... I admire that, and you must feel ultra proud to be capable of doing such a wonderful thing... your computer must be bursting with sheer delights...
There are people on here that claim to be your friends and indeed some you have introduced to me formally, and boy have you just done them a total dis-service.
I look forward to hearing more of your colourful posts, and remember them with glee, but will refrain from copying them and keeping them as I have much better things to do with my time...
Keep posting...!
By the way, question for you, "What is sexy and can give a thumbs up?"

Have to say that I agree with HH and 59 er. It saddens me to say it however having followed the Terrors home and away for the past 7 or 8 seasons, accepting that people can get heated an wound up, I can honestly say that when it comes to foul and abusive language (as opposed to amusing banter and jibes) I think our own supporters are the worst offenders I have come across in the Ryman League. As with most things though it is a minority of individuals that tarnish the reputation of the majority.
I didn't witness Mondays fracas first hand but I know who generally the culprits are. Whilst I have no intention of naming those individuals on this forum, having recently been voted onto the Board of the Members Club I shall be speaking with both Steve Adkins and our head of stewarding to ensure that our stewards are empowered to act and do so, rather than simply standing idlely by whilst the foul and abusive language flows back and forth
Offline
You will never get rid of bad language at football, but I agree that Mondays incident was over the top, if we want to encourage new fans to the club, this sort of thing will put them off. I think excessive foul language should lead to a verbal warning and then a short ban.
Offline
Anyone who has been unlucky enough to spend time talking to me will rightfully tell you I swear a lot..... An awful lot.... But we need to have a good look at ourseleves moving forward when it comes to behaviour on the terraces both home and away.
When I was contacted on the Facebook Bog End page by a Dad looking to bring his two sons over to a home game, I had to warn him that the kids would get a lesson in Anglo Saxon language if he came on the Bog End.
One of Anthony's school friends goes to watch Carshalton with his brothers and Dad... None of them are Robins fans but they enjoy going to watch games.... I spoke to the Dad and tried to get him over to watch us... He told me he'd been a couple of times but Carshalton was a more friendly place to take kids to...
I'll admit it was funny when the loony who does the match reports for Merstham described our travelling support as foul mouthed but it also shows what people possibly think of us.
Millwall might well enjoy the "No one likes us, we don't care" views of others but a club like ours trying to get new people in and that includes kids and families.. thats the last thing we need. Worth bearing in mind if Whyteleafe don't get promoted this season... Will their players really need a team talk or insentive to put one over on us next year after what happened ?????
We are very close to a number of other local Non League clubs so if we want to win over the neutrals and floating fans we need people to have a good long look at themselves and ask themselves if they want the clubs support to get bigger or if they want to be standing on a near empty terrace in a few years time swearing like drunken winos every Saturday.
Offline
I, like possibly others on this forum, have attended professional games where a warning was at first given by the steward, and if the culprit persists, then he was ejected, why can we not do the same, I agree most of our "stewards" are a little too young to admonish an adult but surely a responsible adult could stand near the culprits, register the warning, then eject if it persists, it is not difficult to stop if you really want to.
At the end of the day if the club is to move forward, the younger generation is the way to go, and any way we can make the experience more enjoyable then that is what we must do.
I hope the people who were responsible for the language on Monday, read this forum and realise there error and try to excercise a little self control in the future, if not for themselves but for the sake of OUR club.

I've got it (the flu yes), but also an idea.
Let's have a swear box and install someone big, mean, strong, tough, muscular and solid to police it (that's me out of the running).
In the next game either the behaviour will improve dramatically or by the end of the game we will be the richest team in the league and be able to afford to buy Ronaldo, Bale, Falco (then again maybe not), Yaye Toure and De Gea.
