Well it was a bit better. We got forward more and got into the box quite a bit. And we were rewarded when a loose ball pinged around in the box and was nodded home by Simeone. We remained on top and had the better of the chancs, but 1-0 at half time felt about right.
The second half was in a similar vein until the equaliser. A free kick was spilled by the keeper and a forward was first to the rebound. I think Somerville palmed the ball away but again a Walton striker was first to the ball and this time put it away.
Their winner came when a long ball went across the box and was knocked in at the far post seemingly unchallenged. We still tried to get back into it but it was all a bit frenetic . Although we played ok, we never really bossed the game, and never had prolonged periods of possession and pressure. And yet again we failed to test the keeper who didn't have to make a save.
Another defeat against a team that will finish in the bottom half of the table.

Tactic 1 - fall over outside the box for Jordan to shoot home. Quite successful
Tactic 2 - clip every ball won forward in a gentle arc. Quite a bit less successful, especially when you are playing a striker under 5'6.
Tactic 3 - ah, now we have a player who can throw the ball a long way. So contain until we can force a throw in highl up the pitch and flood the area. Well it got us a goal today but in truth fairly limited.
In fairness, exactly like the game at their place last season, the grass was soo long our wide players (Sol & TJ) had little hope of taking anybody on wide with the ball.
But we ended up playing Billy as the target man for the long kick from the keeper with a huge gap between the front 3 and any midfield player to pick up a knock down or their clearance.
Quite a reasonable debut from ???? But we must find an effective way of playing, whatever that is, very soon. And we don't have it yet.

???? = Brendan Murphy-McVey, signed from Kingstonian.

The back four need sorting out and fast. We cannot keep on giving away easy goals like Walton;s second today. The players look good but do not seem to have much of an understanding and are allowing oppo players to go unmarked.
Overall I thought that the performance was an improved one and up front (sorry Gary) we looked better to me without Dan. It looked to me to be much more fluid today.

I'm sure Frank and Hamsey will address it but for me, it's the full back areas rather than in the middle that our back four look most vulnerable at moment.
Positives for me today; the fact that we dominated the game for 60 mins, the debut performance of Brendan in midfield and the fluidity as Ev mentioned.
Negatives: taking nothing away from the game despite the long period of domination, the continued vulnerability at the back down the flanks and despite the fluidity the lack of clear cut chances created during the game (our goal aside, just two which were missed in quick succession by Michael and shortly after, Merrick)

This was a game we should have won. We wasted 2 chances towards the end, one from Michael Solako who missed the target with their keeper nowhere to be seen, but Solako leaning back put the ball over the bar when it was easier to score. The other from James-Lewis who sliced it wide. With Dan now gone our priority is to get a striker who knows where the back of the net is. We need somebody that can score as often as Dan did last season. Frank please take heed.

This game is one of opinions and personally while I agree we were the better team in the first half, and was actually saying " at least we know of one team who is worse than us", boy did those words come back to bite me on the b*m, the second half saw a rejuvinated Walton team who showed they wanted the game more than us, I do not know what the manager said to them at half time but it certainly worked, and why wait until five minutes before the end to change things, I do not like to name players but TJ just was not up to it today and I do not think it done either him, or the team, any favours to leave him on for as long as he was today.
I dread to think what the result will be on Tuesday against our near neighbours, because we do not need just one player( even if he is a returning legend) but several positions require addressing, if not then a change of management will eventually follow as this is a results business, and to be frank about it, they have been abysmal.

Abysmal is the word. I have not seen such awful play in years. They don't seem to have a clue and I wonder whether the bench have any idea either. At this stage it seems a change of management was a nonsense and to risk someone without any experience indicates that maybe someone wants Combined Counties next season. I just cannot see where we are going. Yes I know it's eary days!
Over 360 minutes of league football and hardly a shot of note in actual play. It is not good enough and no wonder Dan left.
This day, 23rd August, in 2011 we played Leatherhead away and won 4-2. This day in 2014 we played Three Bridges at home and won 4-0. Happy days especially the leatherhead match where we played so-so first half and completely turned it around in the second half. Could you see this team doing that?

Gary, I think Bondy was referring to Jordan Cheadle not Clarke
Offline
Cheads was an unused Substitute on Saturday.
According to the Ryman Football Web Pages site our scorer on Saturday was Mike Salako but I thought Antonio Simeone nodded it in. He certainly seemed to be getting the congratulations.

Definitely Simeone - we have photographioc proof - see tomorrow night's programme.

Gary I think Bondy is referring to the season opener at East Grinstead when Cheads scored 2 free kicks from the edge of the box

I have to stick up for him otherwise I would have no one to bring the bar to silence by standing on chairs and hosting the MoM presentations after games!

Sorry Gary, I know you dislike postings that at all confusing!
Tim is quite correct in that my highly detailed analysis, such as it was, covered how our tactics had evolved (not sure that is the right word!) over the 4 league matches.
You thought it harsh but perhaps you raced past the paragraph that started 'In fairness.....'
