I manage to persuade my wife, who hates football, to come with me to a couple of away games. The 2 she enjoys are Whitstable and Hastings, shopping and being by the sea. Now yesterday was not a problem as the forecast was for a warm sunny day. Now I might just have trouble in getting her to come to Hastings in February!
We arrived in Whitstable at 10.30 had a coffee, did some shopping, some walking and a meal at the Old Neptune outside overlooking the sea. How nice was that. We walked this down by strolling to Tankerton then wandered into the ground at 2.30. Eventually taking our seats and the game was about to kick off. Where were all our so called supporters? Yes we recognised some but so few of them, maybe they knew someting we didn't! Our day was about to go down hill, one down inside 2 minutes. Then it got worse with a sending off before half time. The second half we pressed and looked far the better team but were poor in front of goal. Obviously with 10 men we began to get tired and they scored again a couple of minutes before the end. We left at 0-2 with the match ref. indicating 4 minutes additional play. As we walked to our car we heard a roar and guessed they had scored again.
I thought they really tried hard and maybe with eleven men we might have got a result. We had a good day out in spite of the disappointment of the game. But where were all our supporters??

I think there were a few at Lords watching Surrey somehow lose after getting Gloucestershire out for just 220.
At least Carshalton got done 3-2 in the last minute or two after being 2-0 up so that helped it not to be a completely depressing day!

Fully agree with you Greg.
Whitstable is the fav away trip for me and Mrs Bondy and we do exactly what you do, except we swap your shopping trip for a long walk along the coast.
Sadly we had to miss it this season.
Let's hope the one positive from Saturday is that we have helped them avoid relegation!

I reckon there were about 15 of us, the average age would have been comfortably North of 60 (thanks in large to the occupants of our * carload)
* Ashtree and Gypsy Joe in particular !!

Good point Bondy, Whitstable is indeed a good day out especially with the weather we had Saturday. Also lets hope we avoid relegation! The shopping didn't get any more exciting than local fruit and some bread.

I won't show this message to the wife, she will take great exception to the over 60 remark!

It's only thanks to your Mrs and me that the average age wasn't nearer 70 mate.
More like Dad's Army than Bog End Army. Not that I'm ageist but if we draw with Brackley on Saturday we're going to the replay on a Dial-a-Ride bus !
