New midfielder

In the spirit of the new glasnost at the club, the manager has announced that we have signed Charlie Emery and he is available for tonight's game

Re: New midfielder

Anyone know much about him? Supposedly played under Frank in his spell in charge of the reserves.

Re: New midfielder

I remember when Dan Summers first played for us some people ( sorry, one person ) wasn't too enamoured with the quality of his performances and look how he turned out ! But last night I must say Emery did a very passable impersonation of Ashley Robinson, not the Ashley Robinson that is playing now but the fat tub of lard that Ashtree always speaks so highly ( sorry, lowly ) of.

When Charlie was substituted in the 55th minute last night Bog End Tim applauded politely and shouted an encouraging " Well played Charlie " Gypsy Joe turned and looked at Tim and said " Well f*cking played ???" Tim replied " Well I didn't really notice him to be honest but it's too early to crucify the bloke "

There's a second hand treadmill for sale in this week's local Guardian, shall we have a whipround ?

Re: New midfielder

I actually don't think he touched the ball in the entire first half...i'm not even kidding.

I counted 4-5 in the second half before he was taken off.

But laughs aside, its hard to really fault him last night when we seemed to be using that long ball tactic for most of the game (i.e. pump it up to the forwards from defence). Yes he looks overweight, but that shouldn't be a criticism in and of itself, not when the game was set up to bypass the midfield all night long.

On a side note, i wonder how long Jamie Byatt is going to be satisfied with having to spend the whole game trying to win headers against 6ft centre halves? Yes he will give his all, as is his wonderful commitment, but I'd be very surprised if he was enjoying our style of play.

That was one of the most painful viewings I've had to witness in a couple of years at IF. I don't say that lightly and generally keep positive through tough times. That last night was woeful.

Re: New midfielder

I missed the first 30 mins last night so I'm not qualified to offer any judgement on Mr Emery.
What I very much hope is that this was just a tempory signing of an adult and reasonably experienced midfielder to cover the losses in the short term.
However I am more than (un)happy to register my own concerns on the return of the long ball game, until we picked up the tempo in the last 20 mins.

Last week I posted that we must have the shortest strike force in the division.
Well Hythe matched us in that respect last night and, whilst not the greatest team, they concentrated on breaking quickly and running and running at our back 4. Not just lobbing the ball forward or relying on long throw in's to perhaps create something.
Oh dear.

Re: New midfielder

I felt the best team won, and they done so trying to play to feet not heads, most times when they broke there were between three to four players in the box, and us, poor old Jamie invariably on his own and sometimes,  a n other,
If Jamie were to up sticks and move on I would not blame him, with the kind of "football" and I use the term loosely,  we are providing he will be lucky to reach double figures this season.
Had either one of our management team ever seen "Dick" Emery play before last night, if so then it is no wonder we are so poor if they consider him a good replacement for McVey.
Goodness knows where we will be at the end of the season, I just hope it is high enough to avoid dropping down.

Re: New midfielder

Bondy - if it is the case that he is a temporary experienced stand in until we get a real midfielder in then fine.  But why did the manager go to the trouble of putting out a North Korean style press release indicating that this bloke was the best midfielder since Gazza (no, not that one).
