I see this no nonsense central defender has left the Robins, against us he was one of the best players on the pitch, always talking to his defenders, tough and uncompromising and led by example, everything you need in a defender, I would not mind seeing him in a black and white striped shirt, but who would you drop in his place, certainly not Simmo.
If he has not already got another club, go in for him Frank! we must have the funds, due to the people who have been let go.
That is not meant as a criticism by the way.

You are confusing me Alan.
You were bemoaning the loss of Cheadle who had not played a game for ages and, quite understandably, grew tired of sitting on the bench.
Now you suggest bringing in another central defender who, given the form of our current pairing and barring any unfortunate injury, will also just warm the bench.
Surely we have more crucial areas to strengthen at the moment.

I'd tend to agree that centre back is not the priority. You could argue we have sufficient cover with Harry Knock, Sol PB and Cristiano Goncalves (is that his name?) all capable of filling that role - with Darryl and Simmo the obvious first team pairing.
Siaw and Simmo have been very good in my opinion. You could argue that we have conceded too many goals, and I'd agree, but I would argue that that is a consequence of our odd tactics rather than an issue with the defence itself. We tend to pump the ball forward (last game vs Walton and Hersham an exception) and because our strikers are short and don't win headers (not their fault) the ball comes back just as quick and we are under pressure again. Ball retention has to be better if we want to concede less goals. The defence is constantly under pressure with how quickly the ball comes back at them after a hoof up field.
Sorry I went a bit off piece above. Anyway we probably need midfielders (and a goalscorer to compliment Jamie Byatt) more than we need a defender.
P.S. I am surprised he has left Carshalton. Looked good against us, if a little lippy and provocative. The key question is why? Anyone know? I noticed he was in the crowd at one of our games a week or two ago.

That must be about six or so players Chipstead have signed in the last couple of weeks. Has someone won the lottery there?

Bondy I feel you are missing the point of my posting,
First; I was mentioning a fact, he has left!
Second; In my opinion I feel he would make a better partner for Simmo than Daryl.
Third: My opinion of JC is well documented and I find it strange that "Frank" stated he encorouged JC to come to Tooting, to not play him when he was our leading goalscorer ( I KNOW IT WAS ONLY ONE
GAME IN BUT STILL A FACT)
Fourth: I could not agree with you more about areas requiring stregthening, but players of his calibre, in this division, are few a far between.
I rest my case m`lud.
See you tonight, lets hope for a good one, looking forward to seeing JC play as it is quite a rarity.

Just been swapping texts with a current Robins player who said Alex Penfold is a good lad but he's not any better than Daryl or Simmo. He also said the manager is sick of the arguing between players in the dressing room and that is the reason for the current exodus. Not a happy camp by the sound of things.
I said to Adriano Moraes in the gym a couple of weeks ago that he'd end up at Tooting one day. Plumpton would put out the welcome mat for him, he's the No.6 who wound us all up at their place almost causing Plumpton to blow a gasket at the bus stop.

From what you are sayin BEU, he certainly is not required, we do not need disquiet in the dressing room, players need to at least respect each other, otherwise it may be to the detriment of the team.

Alex is a left back!

Agree with you Gary, when we played them at their place he was a cetre back, and he certainly impressed.
Just a shame he appears to have some issues, if you believe what you read, and you do not need disruption in the dressing room.

I have seen him play centre back against us this season and I maintain he's a left back.
