Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

A welcome 3 points, but hard to know what to make of that because Chipstead were so poor. With no recognised strikers in our side and with about 80% posession we hardly made their keeper work and the longer it stayed goaless you got the feeling they could break on us and get an an undeserved winner.  A well worked goal around the hour mark calmed the nerves and despite missing a penalty we ran out easy winners with a 2nd right at the end.
Haven't we got a better penalty taker than Sol? He never seems that confident, he's missed loads over the years and I knew he was going to miss that yesterday, Cheadle would have buried it no problem.
Anyone know the golden goal time?

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

I looked at the table before the start and thought it would only take a couple of wins and we are up where we all want the club to be.
Stop it Bondy - foolish and damngerous expectation. Just enjoy and be patient.

It did take us some time 59er against an inept Chips side.
Not quite the right balance between not being afraid to.play an early ball forward when the striker makes his first run, and possibly getting it wrong, and hanging on to the ball at the back too long by which time they have lost interest.
But once we fully realised they had nothing more resources were committed forward, including Treacher.

Agree about Daryl. Does sometimes overplay. But he considers himself a footballer and you have to get your own satisfaction I guess.

Anybody get a good view of the incident where the Chips defender was unfortunate to break his hand against the nose of Robbo?  Ok, Robbo was daft to press him so hard just outside their box that he ended up on the wrong side of him. But it did not look good from where I was.
Wonder if he will be ok for Tues?

Keep encouraging our creative players chaps.  If we can stay solid at the back it is them that will make the  difference and offer goal scoring opportunities.
Onward and upward.

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

Three well deserved points, but we certainly made hard workof it, although we had plenty of posession when we got in the last third, as has been happening all season, their were only one or two people in the box, we must break out quicker otherwise we will never make our superiorority count, like Andy has said, it only wanted a lucky break on their behalf and I would have doubted if we would have got back into it.
The team, as a whole played very well, most notably Daryl, yes sometimes he does try to beat a man when a simple pass is on, but their is no denying the confidence he has in his ability, and I for one would accept the odd time he does get caught, fortunately so far as far as i can remember it has not been costly.
One thing which was frustrating was the number of times we had a player either on the left or the right, in acres of space and calling for the ball and being totally ignored, this happened especially to "Knocky"   and he must have found it very frustrating, because I know I did, why do the players not look to see what options are open rather than put the ball into a crowd of players, with the posibility of losing it.
Thinking about the leaving of Mark Hams, I get the feeling it was possibly a conflict of how we should play, Frank it appears wants us to play on the floor, which is our strength, not hoof it in the air for our diminutive forwards to try a get a head on it., and long may this style continue.
All in all a well deserved win but I doubt if we will see a poorer side than Chipstead this season, so lets start making our superiority count in goals, being the eternal optimist, it might count at the end of the season.

Good win yestaday, and i agree we didnt create much early on.We had all the ball but lost our way in final third.Back 3/4/5 look very solid.think thats the best ive seen sol play for long time.Glad Salako got a game, and i think did very well.So does anybody know about new ass.manager, apart from club statement. He sounds good on paper. Is squad big enough for long season? With couple of injuries yestaday, and ashley re-arranged face, could be struggling for numbers??Best of luck tuesday,i cant make that journey after work.I know a lot of you guys will, and well done to you. What was the crowd at chip?Isee that get 40-50 on average.Must have been more than that. They were a very poor team.

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

I would suggest that 50% or possibly more, were "Tooting" supporters.
Their average crowd I think is around fourty to fifty.

According to the 'Football Web Pages' site Serge opened the scoring in the 55th minute. I had 51, Joe had 58 and 60, the geezer who was standing next to you Andy had 59 and I believe Harry had 54 !! Didn't you have something around the 50 odd minute mark Andy ? We peppered it........I bet one of the 5 Chipstead fans in attendance won it........FIX

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

A decent enough performance.  It would be churlish to say that Chipstead were rubbish, because we have managed to lose against Whitstable and Hythe who were both in the bottom 3.  But in this game we had all the possession, and while we didn't create as many chances as we should have, we definitely got more players in the box than recently, so if we keep that up, we will get more goals.

I thought Salako had his best game for us - even before his goal he was getting more involved and making things happen.  And I think we see the best of Makofo in and around the opposition box.

Three wins on the trot but I don't think we can say that we've turned a corner till we're in the top 10.

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

The midfield all seemed to be doing the same thing and there is very little variety there.  Jamie, when fit again, needs an experienced big centre forward to take on the oppo centre backs.  As good as he is, he cannot do it all alone.  There does not seem to be enough width in the team and the balls forward all seem to be punted either straight to the oppo cente backs or into mass of players in which we find ourselves having to play out of: too many times this season players out wide in space have been ignored.  Hopoefully the new highly qualified coach will be able to sort this out.

Re: Chipstead 0 Tooting 2

You were a minute out Andy, what rotten luck. Personally, I haven't won the Golden Goal since we played Walton & Hersham 10 days ago. My lucks gotta change soon, that's two games I've been to since I last won anything.
