OUR DAY OF SHAME.

It grieves me to report this about a fellow supporter, one who in fact is held in high esteem by all who know him, although a certain person from "Hackbridge" will not be surprised at what I am about to write.
As if the situation on the pitch was not enough to bring shame and embarrassment to our great club, he felt the need to go one further.
The Guernsey mascot is a lion who entertains children and adults alike by going round "gladhanding" and being a very amiable addition to the club, as he is making his way around the crowd, doing what he does best, he comes across our intrepid supporter, who, in his defense was by this time feeling somewhat down as he was watching his team losing 4 - 1, the Lion, being the friendly type he is, approaches our "friend"? and offers his paw of friendship, to which he receives the reply "F***k off" to which the Lion lowers his head and walks on dejected.
During the second half the Lion approaches the end where we are standing and somewhat gingerly approaches us, to which our loyal supporter, being the kind of person we all know him to be, offered his hand in friendship and apologised profusely, and placing an arm upon his shoulder he requested a photo be taken to prove that a life long bond was now being formed. Redemption, our man showed his true side, for which we are all pleased, and the Lion went on his way having exchanged phone numbers and addresses.

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

Our Day of Shame.   I was expecting something else."Tooting fans run riot on Guernsey" or " Major fighting at Ryman League game", or " Tooting fan attacks ref at Guernsey." But no, "Tooting fan refuses to shake mascots hand", well if this our worst day of shame, I 'll take it any day. See you Boxing Day Alan, I'll buy you a beer.

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

Love this. Some of our supporters are planning to turn up at Guernsey dressed as American dentists. Not forgiven it for clapping when Tommy Smith was booked for an innocuous challenge last year.

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

To be honest Lee, I have found the Guernsey folk a very friendly bunch and this is one trip which I always look for when we are visiting the island.
Also I might add they always play a style of football that I enjoy.
Hope you enjoy your trip, but do not come home with three points`s

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

If our 7 foot furry green lion had approached the likes of Fretters or Bog End Tim or worse still, Roy Sisley offering a 'high five' under similar circumstances I'm sure he'd have received the same 2 word response.

Roary The Lion explained that once upon a time an opposition supporter at an away game tried to set him on fire. Funny, I don't recall them ever playing Tilbury

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

I suppose in some small way the retort from our supporter is better than having your bum torched.

Have a good Christmas buddy, see you after Christmas.

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

A rather modest day of shame. We've had a few over the years. I suppose the biggest was the Surrey Senior Cup final at Kingsmeadow when, among other things, George hurled a corner flag like a spear at Woking fans. There was a huge influx of police,.several arrests and it was reported in some of the national papers the next day. I believe it also featured in a book "football violence in the nineties".

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

I think Alan was being 'tongue in cheek' to be honest Mike.

We shouldn't be boasting about things like this anyway. Don't mention Palace, Swindon or Northampton. I posted about Palace once but I think I got away with it.

Re: OUR DAY OF SHAME.

I think I can safely say Cricket, a good time was had by one and all and I look forward to next season.
