New youth teams

I see we are having an U18 side and an U21 side this season.  I think its a good move.  I think someone like Leon Lalor-Dell would have benefitted from this last season.  I don't know if he plays any other football, but he was only called upon for the first team in very short spells, and if he isn't getting a regular 90 minutes, it must be very tough to perform under those circumstances.

Re: New youth teams

In an ideal world I'd prefer to see a full reserve side playing competetive matches which would benefit all the promising academy players plus all the fringe/squad players and those returning from injury. Still, it's definitely a step in the right direction.

Re: New youth teams

Official Club Statement:
Tooting & Mitcham Utd Football Club are delighted to announce that for the 2016-17 season, we shall be re-introducing/introducing both an Under 18s and an Under 21s side to our structure.
This is great news for the club and also for youngsters who aspire to progress from our junior teams through to senior level.
The re-introduction of an Under 18s side (which will compete in the Central Division of the Ryman Youth League) will give additional opportunities to the 16 and 17 year olds already in our Academy set up with Ernest Bevin College. However, it will also allow youngsters in that age group, who for whatever reason are not with our Academy, to remain or to become, a part of the TM United family. The introduction of the Under 21s side (which will compete in the South Division of the Ryman U21 League) will bridge the gap that currently exists between our Academy and our First Team and will give our youngsters the opportunity and experience required to develop in a level of football that is probably more physically challenging than they have been used to whilst maintaining a high level of skill.
This in turn should provide them with an easier transition and a pathway into the world of senior football and beyond.

I think you can play three over age players so that should accommodate some of the older fringe players.

Very good point Brasso Why do I never think of these things ?   That's a rhetorical question DeePee.

Re: New youth teams

I saw a few games in the old reserve team set up and all looked pretty pointless.
No spectators, no atmosphere, players from the 1st team squad but not at the time in the starting XI did not take part for match fitness, nobody who looked as if they might make the step up.
It was a parks side getting to play on the hallowed turf of IF.

This arrangement looks much more encouraging.

Re: New youth teams

Too late ???  This has been common knowledge for a looooooooong time !
It's only the SLP who are tardy. You should know that the press will only print something like that when it's imminent news.
