New Red Card Rule

If this applies to the Ryman league there could be a number of games ending 7 aside next season!!

"The Premier League, Football League and Football Association have announced new rules to combat "intolerable behaviour" by players and managers. The English football authorities say poor conduct has reached "unacceptable levels" over the past four seasons.Under the new guidelines, red cards will be issued to players who confront match officials and use offensive language.Behaviour within the technical areas will also be more rigorously enforced"

Re: New Red Card Rule

Very commendable, but actually laws have been in place to punish that sort of behaviour for years.  It really needs Premier League referees to take the lead on this one.  I believe that they take a lot more serious verbal abuse from players than refs at our level.  So until I see that the new rules applied at the highest level I feel a bit sorry for our refs who will seem like they just want to be the centre of attention, or are just seen to be ruining games if they start sending off players who confront them!

Re: New Red Card Rule

Endo - you are correct as ever! But the FA have to do something about players (and managers) behaviour as the example they give is not acceptable.

Re: New Red Card Rule

I will believe there intentions are serious, when I see it happening during the game, but I very much doubt if anything will change. Unfortunately.
The amount of swearing at officials which is picked up on Sky, is hardly setting an example to the younger generations of players, unfortunately it appears as if it is an acceptable form of language to use in this day and age, and age is no limitation on the user, when they hear it at home.

Re: New Red Card Rule

I think the football authorities need to look at other sports such as Rugby Union. How many times during the World Cup last year did you see the type of behaviour you see in Football?

Re: New Red Card Rule

Referees are being driven from the game at all levels by the abuse they take.
You have to change the focus of the ire.

As a former chaser of the egg shaped ball, when a referee marches an infringement another 10 yards down the pitch due to back chat from someone other than the Captain or designated scrum leader the players do not turn on the referee with some foul abuse.  They turn on their own loose lipped miscreant!
Works wonderfully.

What happened to that experiment in footie?  Why did it die?
To my mind it only failed because referees did not use it enough.  And, when their ears were still ringing, continue marching down the pitch in 10 yard stages until a penalty resulted, as alluded to by 59er.
Very clear to players and fans alike what is happening and why.

Only one person on the pitch with a whistle.  Only one person making the decisions.
