Match Thread - V's Greenwich Borough

The Terrors have a difficult away game against Greenwich Borough tomorrow evening, and their unbeaten run will be severely tested at the Eltham based club. Borough are now 3rd in the league after a comfortable 3-0 away win at Chatham on Saturday, 8 points behind the league leaders. On the same day the  Terrors scramble to  a 1-0 win at home to  Faversham Town, and a similar score Tuesday would see  Tooting create a 5 point lead at the top of the table.

The Borough have had a chequered life, having lost their Sutcliffe Park Ground to  a huge estate development, and transferring to play home games at Dartford's ground. The club were reinvented in 2013 and subsequently  created a new stadium with Cray Valley Paper Mills, at their Middle Park Avenue ground. The team has made remarkable progress in a very short time and were only promoted this season, and are already aiming for promotion again. All the investment seems to  be working!

A few years back our reserves played CVPM at their ground in the London intermediate Cup. The ground was little more than a wooden shack acting as changing rooms and a club house with the pitch located in a middle of a field. A lot of investment has been made to redevelop the ground and bring it up  to  the standards required for senior football. Tooting won the game and went on to  beat Sutton United in the final.  Our reserve team at the time contained a number of outstanding players with lots of potential. The team was disbanded shortly after this victory.

Being league leaders all opposition will want to prove themselves against us, and Greenwich have their own ambitions and will want to put us in our place.  The resolve scraping 1-0 home victories  against Faversham  and Godalming Town will be needed tomorrow. I am not surprised at  Saturday's performance and expectations  after a match away to  Guernsey on a Wednesday, let's hope  any tiredness has been shaken off  and we can continue  our winning ways.

Is it a 6 pointer?

Re: Match Thread - V's Greenwich Borough

On paper it looks like a 6 pointer, but there are many games still to  be played. The only team playing with consistency is the Terrors, whilst all the chasing teams have  unexpectedly been  leaking points. It would be a miracle if Tooting continue this phenomenal run, dropped points are to be expected, but an indifferent patch of form would do more damage than a one off game.  I think t here will bee lots more "Twists and Turns" before the end of the season. Let's not forget the last game of the season is at home to  Dorking Wanderers.

You're right.  We're not even halfway through the season yet.  I hope that if we do go through a bad patch and maybe lose a few games, that everyone realises that its a very long race and hiccups along the way are to be expected.  In fact, we have already had a run of 1 point from 3 matches, so maybe we've already had our blip!

By the way, that last game is AWAY at Dorking!

Without wishing to get too far ahead of ourselves, imagine if this was to be a title decider !  A lovely sunny afternoon in the Surrey Hills in late April, there'd be a booze fuelled 1000 of us.

Bah Humbug, I'm going to miss the Boxing Day game at Carshalton because I've been emotionally blackmailed into visiting my twin sister in North Wales. I know it must be hard imagining me having a twin sister but I can reassure you she's not as pretty as me although she does have far more tattoos

"........visiting my twin sister in North Wales......."

I note that she has decided to live almost as far as possible away from you as she can !
p.s. Good luck with getting any sort of rail transport over to there on Boxing Day !

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left !

...not to mention that our second last  Game of the season is at home to our local rivals Carshalton who currently sit 4th, a point off Greenwich and are therefore also having a great season thus far!!

Re: Match Thread - V's Greenwich Borough

I am also off to visit family in the valleys after Xmas Boggie.
However i have somehow negotiated with the divine and very understanding Mrs Bondy a departure after the Carshalton game!!   Lucky me.

So we might bump in to each other.
We might also bump in to large groups of fat men in red jackets singing close harmonies round every corner.

With all the rail nonsense escalating big time tomorrow night could anyone offer a devoted Terror fan a lift back to civilisation please?   Croydon or any tram stop would be fantastic.  Thanks.

Highly unlikely mate, the place my sister lives in is so small it makes Chipstead look like the Big Apple ! We're all off to see The New Saints (who boast a 100% record in the Welsh Premier League so far) against Cefn Druids on Boxing Day so at least I'll see some football even if it isn't my beloved Terrors.

Causels beat Carshalton last night with 'Busy' notching the clincher late on. The Robins also had 2 men sent off, not a bad result for us.

Hope you manage to cadge a lift Bondy.

Bondy - I can get you back to Addington Village.  Although there is a 10% chance I won't be able to get to the game!  I'll know a bit later.
