Lowest of the Low

Back to an important game tomorrow for the team. The Terrors now have the humiliation along with a handful of other clubs to compete in the FA Trophy Extra Preliminary round. At least the Terrors where excused until the actual Preliminary Round of the FA Cup.  Aveley are currently 3rd in the Bostik League North Division, which on Paper looks a lot stronger than our own Division.  This is a game the Team has to win otherwise they will be out of the main Cup Competitions before the end of September! Aveley have a brand-new shinny ground a short distance from their old home, and a 3G pitch (hate the bloody things), which is thankfully light years ahead of their old pitch, which was one of the worse playing surfaces I have seen. Despite the comments on this forum, we are left with team which has been dumped on us. But they have to perform, after all they are playing a team from the same level of Football.  For the Terrors this will be a much needed win, and bring some smiles and hope to the loyal fans, otherwise this could be a long cold winter.

Re: Lowest of the Low

Looking at the results of the Extra Preliminary round FA Trophy games on Saturday one name stands out above all the others like a “sore thumb.” The Terrors were the only Team with a history and a Football pedigree which were included in this round, and duly dumped out of this competition at such an early stage. Someone quoted on here when he heard “What happened to this once great club.”   Exactly, although not a club anymore, the team is still has a respected name, what a mess!

Re: Lowest of the Low

Mike - The Extra Preliminary round of the Trophy is drawn the same as FA Cup - it's basically luck (or not) of the draw. They need to lose some clubs before the "proper" Preliminary round so all the eligible teams go in a hat and the first however many are put in the extra Preliminary round.
As for " the only Team with a history and a Football pedigree which were included in this round" Sheffield, Bedford Town, Hastings United might disagree with that statement !

Re: Lowest of the Low

DaveM, of course I know when the draw is made. My post was to  reflect my own thoughts at the state of the Team and and were it finds itself. The only really historic club is Sheffield, Hasting were playing in Local County Football and only came to  the fore in the 80's. Bedford I think went out of Business before being reformed.
