Booth class is all too much for Tooting tough guys

Paul Booth marked his home debut with a goal in each half as Folkestone Invicta eased to one of their more comfortable wins of the season with a 3-0 victory over a physical and combative Tooting and Mitcham United side at the Fullicks Stadium on a bright November afternoon.

And, no matter how experienced the well-travelled striker may be, or how many goals he has scored elsewhere in his highly successful non-league career, the 36-year-old’s delight was there for all to see when he powerfully headed past Tooting keeper Gareth Williams to make it 2-0 to the home side as the game entered stoppage time at the end of the first half.

Folkestone were by far the better side in those first 45 minutes but had failed to turn their domination into goals until Johan Ter Horst found himself clear on the right and pulled the ball back for defender Josh Vincent to open the scoring with a deflected effort from just outside the 18-yard box.

The breakthrough had come on 42 minutes and when Booth converted a fine cross from Vincent the home side had the lead they deserved to take in at the break.

Young striker Ter Horst did everything but score as Folkestone continued to take the game to their opponents after the break and it was his unselfish sideways touch that put Booth clear to seal this comfortable victory 11 minutes from time.

This fully deserved victory lifted Neil Cugley’s side a couple of places up the Ryman One South table and although there’s a huge amount of football to be played between now and the end of the season, a place in the end of season play offs could well be in their sights for the third season in a row.,
