Isaiah Jones Squares the Circle

During the 58/59 season Tooting were drawn at home to Nottingham Forest in the 3rd round of the FA Cup before a crowd 14,700. They drew at home when Referee Ron Warnke awarded a very controversial penalty to save the game for Forest. The National Press were outraged at Warnke’s penalty decision.

The reply at the City ground was played before a crowd of 42,362, and Forest won 3-0 escaping the humiliation of being the first premier (1st Div) club to dumped out of the cup by an amateur side!

Forest made it all the way to the final and were joined by Luton Town. Forest won the Final 2-1 with ten men (No subs then) when winger Roy Dwight broke his leg, but not before scoring a goal before being injured.

On the 10th January Isaiah Jones joined Luton Town from Middlesbrough, and the next day was selected to play in the FA Cup 3rd round against Nottingham Forest. Forest and Town had never met in the FA CUP again since the 1959 Final. Another amazing coincidence, Dwight became the Manager of T & M in 1971.
All of this linked by Isaiah Jones
