When a No.9 is not a No.9
Tonight, one team wanted it more, and that was clearly Knaphill.
Let’s give credit to them. They were quicker to the ball and played with real purpose, often
driving with the ball and finding the back of the net 5 times.
From the start they showed good team spirit and played with confidence, and it showed.
I left the match after the 3rd goal. It didn’t surprise me that two more were going in the back
of the net. Our new No.9 seem to be out of sorts, and it doesn’t surprise me that we are not
scoring goals. We were slow in all areas on the pitch although credit to Tariq who put a good
shift in, becoming a firm favourite with the Tooting supporters.
We know that we have the makings of a good team, but we have to do be better than this!
Are we showing naivety on the pitch and perhaps losing confidence in front of goal, forgetting
how to score. Knaphill showed us why they are playing well and we must dig deeper if we are
going to maintain our playoff position in this league. Too many pass backs to our defenders
and goalkeeper wastes time, and when we went 3 down, it was clear that we weren’t going
to score.
Whatever happened tonight, mustn’t happen again. Serious talks need to be had too why we
lost tonight and why we are getting key men sent off. That sending off cost us two further
goals. I wasn’t there to witness those goals, but for those loyal supporters who stayed, I
salute you for enduring what you witness tonight. It wasn’t nice, but well done Knaphill.
You deserved your win. We must do better next time!
