Stefan's word and reflection on the miserable loss againstFleet Town
This was a disappointing end to our season, casualties leading up to our final match and a casualty in the first
few minutes of our match to Andy O Brien, which was terrible to witness. However, the players regrouped and
we started well. However, Fleet Town showed their class with their experience forward line and midfield and
played an excellent game of football throughout the 90 minutes and thoroughly deserved their win.
They were the better team on the day. No question about that. Our continued slow passing to each other at
the back was difficult to watch, with inaccurate passes and a shortage of attacking players upfront, created little
opportunities until the very end.
Based upon what I witness yesterday, I would be very surprised to see an upset against Horley in the final.
To a man, Fleet Town were seasoned players who had a plan and that plan was professionally carried out.
They wanted it more than us and the rest is history, where we continue to be in a league that the supporters
don’t want, but it is what it is. We must learn from this defeat and put it behind us.
Tooting have achieved what I wanted this season, a playoff place. The team succeeded, but it may take next
season to really show our quality and I hope that we can continue to keep these group of players together
but add one or two more to our forward line, so we can get off to a good start and perhaps end where we
finished, but at the very top of the league. Not an easy task as it has taken several years to assemble the
players we have, and without financial support forthcoming we are going to have to do it the hard way,
with the players we have, and with the desire they gave throughout the season, only to be outdone by a
tactical Fleet side that did their homework against us, once again.
Good luck Fleet Town in the final. You deserved it on this occasion. One match that both teams badly needed
to win, that has affected all the hard work that has been put in this season.
