Re: TERRORS V WORTHING

Happy with that result!!! Think that moves us back into the playoff positions.

I would look upon it as a point gained as Worthing is never an easy place to go and get a result.

How did we play?

Re: TERRORS V WORTHING

Just noticed that we're just outside playoffs on goal difference.

Re: TERRORS V WORTHING

I thought it was a decent game considering it was heavy rain throughout.  Not a great deal of chances, but their keepr made a good save just beofre their opener, and a better one late on which just denied Summers.  Having said that, Badiali had to make two spectacular saves in the 2nd half as well.  From our point of view, we didn't get forward as much as we usually do from the wide positions, and our passing was just a bit off all night.  A fair result on the balance of play.  Was it a point gained or two points lost?  I'll tell you in April.

Re: TERRORS V WORTHING

I warned the zebra clad in the bar that, having watched a Tooting goal scored from a huge goal keepers punt downfield, we would see a rallying call for a change of tactics from Gary.  And there it is.

I'm still waiting for my UEFA coaching badges to come through Gary but I'm a little confused why you think we are lacking two wide players if you simply want us to hoof it forward and chase.
And if that is the way forward your beloved Beast would certainly not be the right sort of fearless striker we would need for the task.

Re: TERRORS V WORTHING

I don't seem able to create a New Topic in Match Reports so here is the one I knock up that I believe arreared in last nights prog.  Teams will follow.

Worthing v Tooting & Mitcham
Wednesday 26th Novemberr 2014
Referee:          Mr M. Lowe

158 brave souls endured a miserable night of constant heavy rain but, given the conditions, were rewarded with a good contest on a pitch that stood up pretty well.
Tooting were still without the suspended (and injured) Newton and the injured Graves with Badiali continuing in goal. And the Terrors would end up relying on their keeper to secure a valuable away point.

The Terrors could have got off to the perfect start when after just 6 minutes Summers slipped the ball through to Sawyer in the inside right channel.
This was just the sort of chance he has been converting with ease in recent matches but on this occasion Fagan came out quickly to block well with his body
Suddenly the break was at the other end with a similar ball slid through to BUGIEL inside the box who took a controlling touch and slotted home.  Disaster.

Hendon then stopped the marauding Jelley down the right, earning himself a talking to from referee Lowe.  Soon after Pinnock received a long diagonal ball but it took him too wide for a decent finish.

The dangerous Bugiel created another chance when he pulled off the back four to receive, turned and drove forward at our back four but the receipient of his pass shot wide.
Mr Lowe was called in to action again when Heath dived in to a midfield challenge with every stud on his boots clearly visable.  Even allowing for the conditions he was fortunate to escape with just a yellow and perhaps it was poetic justice when he was forced off shortly afterwards with injury from his efforts.
Pinnock floated in the free kick which resulted in a half chance and then a half shout for a Tooting penalty.

Gordon was cut down on the halfway line after cutting inside on one of his mazy runs but the referee was perhaps unimpressed by his Italian style multiple rolls in the mud and the Worthing player escaped punishment

Sawyer had another shot blocked and then sent a shot high and wide after a good run from left to right.  Worthing were now well in to their stride and stringing together passing moves from back to front. As a contrast, some of the Terrors poor distribution to their front two was causing frustration.
However with half time approaching Tooting drew level when they momentarily abandoned the passing game for Badiali to launch a huge punt upfield.  Route 1 is back!
Surely the centre half towering over SAWYER would not allow the ball to drop and would head clear.  Surely?   But no!  Sawyer pounced gratefully and chipped the ball delicately over the keeper.

Half time         1 – 1

The second half started with Worthing seemingly determined to get Sparks away down the wide left against Jelly. They frequently packed the right hand side and then switched play quickly, getting others up in support with some effect.

Tooting were still driving forward through the mud to create their own chances.
First Summers just could get a ball played forward  to him out from under his feet to release a decent shot.  Then Sawyer ran on and shot fiercely  just over. And Marshall nearly managed to play Pinnock in on goal before he was replaced shortly afterwards by Nkoma.
A Sawyer free kick was then tipped off the head of Summers by the keeper.

Worthing had a good chance in the last quarter when an intercepted Terrors midfield pass was taken down the left and driven across goal. Defenders were throwing themselves in all directions to block but the final shot blazed wide.
Then it was Tooting’s turn to intercept and Sawyer played Summers in going from centre to left.  This was surely the winner.  Oh no, wide.

Both teams were doing their best to ignore the awful conditions and pressing hard for the goal and 3 valuable points in a game that was becoming increasingly open as the players understandably tired.
Substitute Richards crossed from wide left to the head of Bugiel drawing a fantastic tip over save from Badiali. Then Sawyer broke down the middle and keeper Fagan, charging yards outside his box, did really well to stay on his feet and get the ball clear.
Nkoma skipped across the sodden turf from wide right but could not find the net.
Another interception on half way saw Worthing running in on goal requiring another fine save from Badiali. Then right at the end Sawyer was through yet again but failed to find the net.

Points shared and all credit to the players for producing such an entertaining match in difficult conditions.
Lots of chances for both sides and perhaps a good away point for us in the end.
