Well, what a game this was. It had everything, great goals, packed with incident, a manager/fan rant and a 95th minute winner.
We went ahead early in the game after industrious work from Shay Brennan dispossessing an Alton defender and crossing for Conor Melody to curl a delightful shot into the top right hand corner of the net. The lead didn't last long with an equaliser direct from a free kick a few minutes later. The visitors were very organised and looked the more likely to score again. Despite that, we regained our lead on 20 minutes, a breakaway found Brennan on the right side, who used the defender as a screen and fooled the Alton keeper with a shot on his near post. Again, the lead didn,t last long. With Simeone missing, we looked very vulnerable at the back and Alton looked capable of scoring every time they attacked with the inevitable equaliser coming on 26 minutes.  Half Time 2-2
The second half followed the same pattern as the first with Alton with most of the possession and looking the more dangerous in attack. The tide seemed to turn with about 10 minutes to go, Alton ran out of steam and resorted to delaying tactics to settle for a point. Tooting surged forward and mounted attack after attack and got their reward right at the end after a goalmouth scramble fell to Declan Smith, who smashed the ball home from 10 yards. Jubilant scenes followed all around the ground and the final whistle blew minutes later. Alton looked devastated that all their hard work was for nothing, they deserved at least a point out of the game, but thats football, you don't always get what you deserve.
All in all, a fantastic afternoons entertainment, hopefully, this will kickstart our season and give us the belief that we can compete for the playoff positions this time.
