I am very sad to hear of Martin's passing.
In his time as chairman of the Members Club he worked very hard to introduce several new initiatives and always tried to do his best for the club.
He was particularly helpful to me in the production of our handbook, particularly on the IT side, for which I was very grateful.
He had immense charm and I personally will miss him very much.

Hi Gary,
The posting of the Yeovil game was on October 20th on Roger Ramone's twitter site.
It's on You Tube so it should be easy to find.
The match was played in 1988 and from memory the Yeovil directors were quite sporting.
Read above that the Tooting fans couldn't get a drink at the bar, and if it's true that's terrible.
I remember talking to Trevor Ford in later years, who was managing Bromley at the time of the Yeovil game and he was astounded when the result came through. Bromley were challenging Yeovil for top spot.

Having not contributed for some time I just thought that I would comment on the Yeovil/Tooting video on Roger Ramone's twitter site. It brings back memories of a fabulous day when I travelled with the team to Yeovil not expecting too much. When we went 3-0 up I couldn't believe it. We were under tremendous pressure and held out for a great 3-2 victory. There is some film of our committee including John Goddard, Frank Jannaway and a very young dark haired Chris Jackson. Graham Poll was excellent that day, despite being under considerable pressure from the Yeovil players.

Hello Alan,
I'm not involved in setting a date for the AGM but I'll certainly pass your request on to the Directors.
Thank you for your interest.

I believe that there is a message on the new Members Club Web-Site for anybody that it is interested.
It was written before last night's results.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Dave Bumpstead » 22/1/2018 10:03 pm

Very sorry to hear about Dave.
He was one of the players who game back for our anniversary celebrations.
Great player and a lovely man.
I remember as an 11 year old sitting behind him in the stand at Highbury when we beat Hendon 5-2 in the London Senior Cup just after Millwall stole him from us.

The past results section was very useful.

Have you got the right Chris?

Interesting comment about Frank's best signing.
Who was I referring to in this October 2015 post?

The Barmy Bog End Army » Bash » 18/3/2017 8:47 pm

I have heard that the injury is not as bad as originally feared. Hope this is correct
Bash is a great clubman who is so versatile.
The injury spoilt what was another great day for the Terrors.

Now the dust has settled I'd like to thank every player on Saturday for the superb effort they all put in against a good Hastings side to gain a fabulous victory. The spirit in the team is there for all to see and this season will be remembered for a long time. It's true that several of the players were out on their feet at the end. Billy Dunn in particular looked to be suffering. I think Peter owes them all a drink.
Let's hope for a good attendance on Saturday. It seems that when we visit places like Lewes and Hastings we attract very large crowds. We deserve good support at home.

Just a query
Is the new member in Spain - Gary Hutton?

The Barmy Bog End Army » Not so New user! » 26/2/2017 11:19 am

I know exactly how you feel.
Just spent two weeks in Tenerife. Followed the three matches -  Sittingbourne, Lewes and Cray through Roger Ramone and the Ryman League Live Scores. Refused to leave the hotel while these three matches were on. Got very excited when the goals went in at Lewes and was told to be a little bit quiet by the family.
Came home Friday night to freezing temperatures. Spoke to Paul Dale before the game saying that I hoped I wouldn't upset the form book by my presence. Should have been awarded a penalty in the first five minutes when Chace was fouled going through on goal and then we hit the post. As the game progressed and we're well into the second half and still haven't scored I'm doing some very serious soul searching. Then came Peter's fabulous free kick and two late goals and all is right with the world. Keep supporting from afar. This team is well worth following.

Spectators looked smart because they'd probably come back from work. In those days many people, me included worked on Saturday mornings.
I used to really look forward to the Possibles v Probables fixture which had the first team attack against the first team defence and the reserve team attack against the reserve team defence. After this game the league season started. We didn't have the number of pre-season fixtures we have now, just the one game. In the early 60s we started to arrange prestigious friendlies. I remember the German team Lohberg playing at Sandy Lane and then matches with First Division reserve sides.
Also there was very little football on TV in the late 50s so people supported their local team. Hence the crowds we used to enjoy. Great days.

Mike
Very interested to read your comments.
We are all very aware of what happened when Billy left and the effect it had on the club.
When it comes to publicity I feel you have underestimated the power of social media.
To give you an example I had to rush away after the Greenwich game for a family gathering. When I walked into the restaurant all 23 in our party new exactly what had happened and the fantastic performance of our team. I also know that there are other ex supporters who are becoming aware of what we are doing and are starting to show an interest again. I hope of course that if we continue to seriously challenge our support will improve.
I hope you are not saying that there would be no advantage in gaining promotion.  I will never accept that.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Last Saturday. » 30/1/2017 4:36 pm

I watched my first game in 1951 when I was 3 years old.
I have been fortunate to see all the great games since then. So many were memorable - Forest, Swindon, Palace, Bradford, Bournemouth, Northampton and Eastbourne Borough but the game against Greenwich will live with me for a long time.
Not only did every player perform to their absolute maximum against tremendous odds but tactically Frank & Paul got it absolutely right. It's such a shame that Danny's injury spoilt what was really one of the great days.
Ian Bullock has texted me to say that the Non League Paper got his score for the match wrong. He of course gave it 5 stars. I feel he would have given it 100 if he could.
We deserve far better crowds than we get. It really is very exciting.

The Barmy Bog End Army » JORDAN WILSON » 12/1/2017 7:07 pm

Very sorry to hear of the extent of Jordan's injury. He has been outstanding for most of the season and this news has spoilt what was a wonderful evening on Tuesday. Hope very much he is back playing soon.

Can bring you back Dave no problem.
BEU - Can't get to KNK by 5-15 but will be leaving Selsdon at 5-30 (Gravel Hill Tram Stop?)
if that's any good.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Mick Browning » 27/11/2015 12:01 pm

I have just had confirmation of Mick's funeral.
The service will be held on Monday 7th December at Surrey and Sussex Crematorium in Crawley at 10.30am with the wake afterwards at the YMCA Football ground.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Mick Browning » 23/11/2015 8:05 pm

Just to let everybody know that I heard today that Mick lost his fight against leukemia this morning.
Phil Garrard, Heather, myself and Paul Piggott accepted an invitation to hear Mick talk about his 50 year career earlier this month. We spent a wonderful evening with him and it was fascinating to hear him talk in detail about his time at
Sandy Lane. At the time he looked well so to hear today that he had passed was devastating. He will be sorely missed. I will pass our condolences on to Mrs Browning.

This was probably our most impressive performance of the season.
For the first time in ages we played as a team with a method.
Could be that the best signing of the season wasn't actually on the field.
