Increasing the attendances

See how Harry's other team do it

Perhaps our people should take notice.  I know that attracting fans is easier when the team is doing well, but I don't think we do enough to get new fans through the gate.

Re: Increasing the attendances

The club does a lot more than people think to get new supporters in but the truth is people want to see a successful team...
We're also in a difficult position compered to Dulwich. We have Carshalton, Sutton, AFC Wimbledon, Kinstonian, Ranyes Park Vale, Colliers Wood and both Croydon teams on our door step or one bus ride away from either Mitcham or Tooting... plus any others I've forgotten. Plus Dulwich not to far away. A battle to get floating fans in other words.

All jokes and banter aside what they've done at Dulwich is fantastic. Big crowds, coverage in the national media and links with various communities groups in their area. We shouldn't knock them at all for what they have achieved.

We seem to shoot ourselves in the foot all the time. The simple fact is winning games gets people in through the gate. Those first two home games against Walton and Corinthian Casuals didn't help.
People turn up at the start of the season a go through those two games aren't likely to bother again unless a good run comes along.

We are a well known club with good support, we just need to get our old fan base interested again with them will come the new supporters. Look at how many old fans turned up for the final with Hendon last year... If we can just get a good season going and not balls things up we will get our numbers up again.

Re: Increasing the attendances

But  Harry, this is Tooting, we like to make life difficult for ourselves, it would not be so much fun if we were consistent.Imagine how  boring it would be to turn up and we are playing a team at the bottom of the table and we actually beat them, not our way old chap!
Keep up the good work

Re: Increasing the attendances

You have to admire just what Dulwich Hamlet have achieved and yes I am jealous of them the b******s. The view of if your not winning people won't be as interested is true, the Saturdays I've worked and there as been a game on, I haven't been as keen to dash home, wash and change and get down to Imperial fields as I was a few seasons ago before the relegation season!.

Reminds me of when me and Stan went straight to Wivenhoe after knocking a ceiling down in a shop in Mitcham, we looked like a couple of chimney sweeps. We walked in the bar and Bill Hill said " You shouldn't have gone to all that trouble."

That was the game Dave Irons started a punch-up at the end,' Old Fred ' got knocked to the floor in the melee that ensued and Wivenhoe's big centre-half wanted to fight Bill Hill in the car park. I think the Old Bill turned up to arrest Dave but he got away by outsprinting them. It was a long time ago.
