Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

I have been sitting indoors this evening trying to put todays result into some kind of perspective.
Were the players too tired after the performance of Thursday evening? they did not look it to me, in fact the majority looked anything but tired.
Was I expecting too much, I did not feel a goal fest would be on the agenda, but I did expect a win at least, after all these are the league whipping boys, but what did I get instead, what I feel is the poorest performance I have witnessed this season so far, and there have been a few contenders make no bones about it.
The Peacehaven team is the poorest team I have seen for several seasons, they would not have looked out of place on Figges Marsh and that is no exaggeration, some of them were running round like headless chickens, not sure what they should do or where they should be, but they still had enough about them to get a draw out of a game which I feel sure none of them thought, before the game, would give them a point.
At the game today was a lifelong Tooting supporter who has, in his retirement, moved to the coast, so living not too far away he thought it a good idea to see the current team, boy was he disappointed he could not believe the poor quality of both teams, feeling like the rest of us that this is no improvement on where we were at the tail end of last season.
I will not single out any players in particular but I do hope there will be a big shake up at the end of the season because if the majority of this team are still with us next season, I can only see the gates becoming ever smaller, and the football on offer will take us nowhere, again!

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

This is way beyond being ridiculous. Totally dominated the game and failed to win....again. We could easily have scored 3 or 4 in the first half but their keeper having a blinder and a lack of composure in front of goal cost us......again.
Peacehaven were not not the worst we have faced this season, for me that was Chipstead, and amazingly we managed to win that one.
A decent away following this time compared to the Ramsgate game which shows that the regulars have not deserted and will continue to keep the faith despite the failures on the pitch.

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

It's all about opinions however I have to say I think you're way off the mark here Alan. Extremely frustrating yes, but worst performance of the season most definitely not - and I agree that there certainly have been some poor ones. However I have to side with Andy on this one. I think the fact that we missed 6 or 7 decent chances in the first half alone contradicts your assertion. As I say, frustrating and very disappointing against an opposition that we all hoped and quietly expected probably that we would beat quite convincingly however a long way from being the worst performance of the season

If not the worst performance ( Think Chatham ), then certainly the most disappointing result, EVERYBODY beats Peacehaven.

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

It must be a "bottom" complex   - if you're at the bottom of the league we'll always gift you some points (Whitstable, Peacehaven etc........)

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left !

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

Nobody (including me, until now) has mentioned Simmo's goal of the season contender yesterday. It reminded me of the sort of goals I used to score.

What are Timtams ?

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

Sorry Alan but, however poor that result was (and I certainly share your frustration, leaving the ground the moment the final whistle sounded) I am with Tim on not wishing to see everything thrown apart and start again.
That is not building.

The pitch was a hard, bobbly nightmare.  Why did we have to pay £10?
Does the old boy who struggled to read out even his own team push his own mower up and down?
Having a laugh.

Against the lowly 'haven we were forced to play just one striker with Ken Barrington 'rested' prior to his Tuesday departure on international duty.
And whilst I again praise another of his lung busting performances just picture the much loathed Frankie Sawyer running on to those chances.    0 - 4 win?

I really thought one goal would unlock the floodgates. And what a goal that was from the, as ever, fully committed Simmo.  But that did not happen.
And what a nightmare goal we conceded.  Appalling complete lack of marking.

Onward and upward against the Dullwits?   Not without strikers.

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

The point I was making Bondy, perhaps not clearly enough, was we were playing a team who would struggle to contain a decent quality park side, they were worse than poor!.
Agree the pitch left a lot to be desired but I still do not think that is a good enough reason for not coming away with all three points.
I do not see Barrington would have made much of a difference, but it is early days yet to judge him, but Frankie, yes I agree with you, or even dare I say it Busy.
Simmo`s goal apart, which had us all in raptures behind the goal, I felt we should have done a lot better than we did, but as I said earlier perhaps this was a hangover from Thursday night.
I agree that starting from scratch is, and never will be the answer, remember when Burgess Hill went up? they had consistency of management and squad over several years, but I stand by my statement that quite a few of this current squad, if starting next season with us again will not take us to where we all want to be, at least fighting for a playoff spot.
Let us hope we can get back to playing as we have done against the clubs towards the top, with the arrival of Guernsey this coming Saturday.

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

I thought it was a pretty good performance!  We attacked well for the first hour.  We varied our attacks, we used the wings, we got players in the box, we ran at their defence.  Our shooting was a bit off, but we did make their keeper work, which is something we didn't do much earlier in the season.  And for most of the game we bossed proceedings.  The massive disappointment came from how we caved in under the slightest pressure from Peacehaven after our goal.  Everything seemed rushed after that.

Their equaliser summed up a major problem this season - set pieces.  Our dozen or so corners failed to trouble their defence.  Their corner ends up in our net unchallenged.  So an incredibly disappointing result, but being objective, a decent performance.

Re: Peacehaven 1 - Tooting 1

I think Frank was as frustrated as the rest of us.When we played down the sides we made some good chance's. We were never going to get headers against their centre halves.I thought their number 9 looked pretty good, held the ball up well, which is something we couldn't do.Not great ,but not the worst. We need some new blood next season.Glad our corners were mentioned, saves me saying again.A bigger striker maybe?
