Looks like his cruciate injury is a bit worse that expected. The Facebook report doesn't say whether he'll need surgery or not, but he will most likely miss the whole season.
Apart from his goals last season, it was his style of play which impressed a lot of people. I doubt whether any of our forwards will play in his way, so we will have to modify our attacking play a bit.

Why isn't John Tracy answering the distress calls today?

" Somewhat of a Striker crisis Alan. Our main/only goalgetter from last season Baxter has gone in the fetlock in the way of a cruciate ligament injury, leaving just Bassett and Dunn to fight it out for the lone striker position for tomorrow's opener against Herne Bay. Please do what you can Alan, we wouldn't ask unless we were desperate."

Feel gutted for Jake, worked so hard for the team last season. Not someone you can replace easily that's for sure, but at least we know and still time to look around,if these guys not up to it.Not that top strikers grow on trees.Well I'm looking forward to new season. What can go wrong??

That is the last thing we needed, I think all my hopes for the season have now well and truly been dashed, as Endo rightly stated, it was not only his goals but his workrate, which was second to none.
Frank and Paul, you have your work cut out now trying to find a replacement, but then at the beginning of last season, Jake was an unknown entity and look how he turned out!
Good luck Jake, hope to see you again wearing the stripes.

That is a big shame. Good luck for his recovery.
BUT i think we are all far too quick to revert to the much too comfortable doom and gloom attitude. Let's at least give the guys that have been brought in an opportunity to play a run of games in COMPETITIVE fixtures before we write them off completely. Some of the guys we haven't even seen yet beyond a half or two. Of course Jake is a big loss but its not the end of the season before its even started!
Good luck to all our other options up front - i'll be cheering them on and hope they can perform.
