T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

A good win for the Terrors against a big, physical and well-organised Wanderers side marred only by Tenny Adebowale being carried off with what looked like a serious knee injury.

We attacked with craft and pace throughout the game and could have scored a lot more if we had taken half our chances. As it was, goals following quick footwork from Jordan Wilson and Danny Bassett were our only reward with penalty on the stroke of half time after some sluggish defending (I wonder how often we will have to say that this season) for the opposition.

Onwards and upwards to third in the table. Roll on Casuals on Monday.

What a great game, end to end.We need to learn to defend better, that's for sure.Bennett got man of the match correctly I think.I thought Bassett held ball up well and got good goal.Robinson played well as usual.Hoping for good season.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

I must have been watching a different game from you guys,, I would hardly call their defence "well organised"
too many times they got caught with only three at the back, nobody seemed to be organising them, not even their management, we should have been at least three up before half time.
Some of our passing movements were first class, but what good is that if we do not finish them off!
We seemed to be getting forward in numbers, and when we did decide to shoot, it was woeful, looking for a positive, we created a hatfull of chances but no one was able to finish them off, with one person in particular must have had his boots on the wrong feet he seemed to put the ball everywhere apart from
towards the goal, and when is he going to look up to see if a team mate is in a better position.
Ashley made all the difference to our midfield today and I do not see a way he can loose his place if he keeps playing as he did, why did he only get ten minutes last week is beyond me, likewise Leon, when he is running at defenders he must frighten the life out of them especially in the box, surely it is time to start showing more confidence in him by giving him a run of games, otherwise how can he improve.
I felt there were probably four or five players  who you could say had a good game, but they, unfortunately, were unable to carry those who were just not up to it.
Let us hope the shooting improves on Monday, and we lay down a marker to the rest of the teams, that the "TERRORS" are back.
But I will not hold my breath.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

Stating there were only five players who had a good game is ludicrous...you don't win a game if 6 players are needing carrying as you put it.

Most, if not everyone, had a good game today. Taurean is probably the exception as he needs to look up more and be a bit more clinical, agreed there. However he is still creating chances, getting into dangerous scoring positions and frightening the life out of full backs, so he's half way there!

Special mention to three players today
Matte Pierson - for a couple of good saves and also for saving us over the last few games with some last ditch saves
Ollie Bennett - growing in confidence. Is quick, nimble and good on the ball. Great at nipping in to intercept the ball off the oppo, driving forward and putting the defence on the back foot. Think he is quite young so will only get better. My man of the match today.
Danny Bassett - worked tirelessly and his finish for his goal was clinical. His hard work really needs mentioning, gives defenders a real battle all game and doesn't give them time on the ball.

I think bully Dunn has settled in nicely and has created or scored in every game bar the cup defeat. If frank can keep him interested all season then we've got a real player on our hands. Talent is unquestionable, desire is the question. But so far he has been excellent.

I thought dorking were really poor actually. We were quite lucky to get away with the win because at 2-1 it is always dangerous.  we need to be more clinical when we are in front otherwise better teams will peg us back.

Regarding Leon, he is a much better impact sub than he is a starter. He comes on in the last 15-20 when defences are already tired and he is dangerous. In games he has started he has been a lot less effective. Deploying him as an impact sub is the right move in my opinion.

100% agree that Robbo made the difference today. Great energy and battle in midfield.

Still, a good watch and we are unbeaten in three, Corinthian casuals away will be a real test as they have started similarly strongly.

Unfortunately we have some posters who will only rear their heads when we lose (eg cup game). The same lot are unlikely to come on and congratulation the team when we win. So there is always going to be a bitter feeling on this thread from time to time.

HOWEVER big congrats to team and management for a good win and a promising start to the league campaign.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

Very encouraging start to the season (apart from the cup exit). Can't comment too much on performances as I've only seen 55 minutes of football this season (turned up 10 minutes before half time at the Herne Bay game). New rosters at work have prevented me from attending and will prevent me from attending on Monday.

Just wondering that if we pick up a positive result on Monday, do the Bog End regulars want me to stay away next Saturday, when I'm due to return to the fold? I was accused of being a jinx last season!!!!!

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

I forgot about matte, couple good saves.I think Frank deserves his chance. He tries to get his team to play football, not just hoof it forward. The defenders need to learn when to play and when to clear.I didn't think Dorking were that great last season, but look where they finished?Tenny injury looked bad so we may need another defender.Best wishes to him and hope it isn't to bad.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

Very pleased with yesterday. I thought we played well & fully deserved our win. Have to agree with "GOD HELP US" regarding one of our centre backs, Although the performance was good, we must not get away from the one to one situation. I think any other team would have put those clear cut chances away. We have got to the same. If we had scored 5 or 6 it would not have fattered them.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

I would like to see Dixon start instead of Clive Dunn. Dixon looks far more mobile and dangerous than Dunn and also looks to be good in the air: something that we have been sadly lacking up front in the last few seasons.

Re: T&M 2 Dorking Wanderers 1

The joy of MOM is that you pay your money and then make YOUR choice.
(Dan Summers still talks to me despite ignoring his two goals for another more crucial performance in a victory a season or two ago)

I greatly enjoyed the performance of Bennett who enlivened midfield.
Kurtis Pyke had been my choice of the player capable of growing in to the creative player we so badly needed in that role and I am really saddened to see he has departed.  I did not know.

However.......I think that is probably 7 'certain' goals Matt Pierson has kept out with some incredible goal keeping this season.  We would not be where we are without him.
He would have been my choice.

I share the concern about the lack of pace at centre back, especially when SBP is moved in there.
Any ball played through the middle when we are pushed up threatens.
Thankgoodness we have other more solid options to return in the form of Quincy Rowe. On holiday I believe.

Tenny was in the bar afterwards and had had a long icing session on a nasty injury.
However his feeling was that it was not too bad. Weeks rather than months. Let's hope that is the case.

Onward and upward.

"............do the Bog End regulars want me to stay away next Saturday.............."

No, I need your £15 for Player Sponsorship !  You can go again after you hand that over.

I started out with nothing and I've still got most of it left !
