Toots 0 Staines 3

They were just a bit too cute for us. We put up a decent fight though and that was reflected in the fact the Staines crossbar was awarded the Man of the Match for his 2nd half performance.

Still no clean sheet this season. Roll on Saturday when we get back to league action against Ramsgate and hopefully I can give my gun barrell a damned good polish rub, rub, rub. "Ah, that's better "

Re: Toots 0 Staines 3

I thought they were a really good side...can only assume that is something close to their first team?

We had quite a few first teamers missing...but played reasonably well considering this. It's a shame that 2 defensive errors, which were effectively two failed clearances, directly lead to their 2nd and 3rd goals.

Eddie Dines was at right back...i thought he was a midfielder? He coped fairly well but didn't look entirely comfortable at RB.

I am loathe to make a final judgement on a player so early, but my initial thoughts are that Mike Dixon isn't quite up to it. Again, i'll reserve final judgement upon giving him some more game time...it must be tough coming into a side for the last 5-10 minutes of games and then being asked to perform in 90, some players just need game time. But his touch was loose last night and he gave the ball away too often. Perhaps it's a skewed view against a very good side.

Taurean was our best player and took the game to the oppo as often as he could, but could still do with getting his head up a bit more often. But no complaints generally as he has been a huge part of our propelling to top spot in the league.

Will be interesting to see how we cope without Robbo in the league for the next couple of days...his tenacity and distribution in midfield was missed yesterday.

Re: Toots 0 Staines 3

All fair comments.
Although Staines are now only one division above us after recent hard times their degree of organisation reflected the level they have come from.
An individual coach focused on every area of the team.

Those were 3 really good chances the lads created in that first half.
And the performance deserved at least one goal.

If Dixon can just put one away with a guided side foot that might give him the confidence to stop blasting everything with maximum power.  Strong boy.
