Statement from Carshalton Athletic FC :-
"The FA Trophy replay, due to be played on Thursday 13th of October has been postponed due to a charge being levied by the FA against Carshalton Athletic for fielding a ineligible player.
The Club are replying to the charge after which the FA will make a determination. The outcome is expected to be known within 7-10 days."

Seems it's more common than you'd think. Did anyone notice that Thamesmead Town were removed from the Alan Turvey Trophy this season following their first round victory over Romford as a result of "a breech of the rules"

Must be a bug going round!

I don't know what happened at Carshalton however am just speculating. According to the Ryman site they signed a player by the name of McLaughlin last week from Met Police. To have appeared on the Ryman transfers list (and be eligible to play in a league game) they must be registered with the league 4 hours prior to kick off (ie 11:00am on Saturday). A player by the name of McLaughlin was in the Robins line up on Saturday (I don't know but am assuming it was the newly signed player). Now I don't know when he was registered with the league however FA Trophy eligibility rules are different to those for the league and require the player to be registered with the league as a player of the club by 12:00pm on the Friday so am wondering if maybe they fell foul of this rule?

Whatever it is, the FA have decided that the game should be replayed at Cray. Whether this is an actual replay of the 1st game, or a replay because of the draw is not clear to me.
If they are replaying game 1, then it would suggest that there was something wrong with the 1st game, and that Carshalton might be lucky to still be in it. If it is an actual replay because of the draw, then it looks like Carshalton have had some sort of punishment, as the replay is at Cray, whereas it should have been at Carshalton. In which case Carshalton might be lucky to still be in it!

Thanks, that clears up that little mystery

So, it turns out that the relevant registration arrived late, but it was proven that it was posted in good time. So it was actually the postal system that was at fault here. And it seems that the game will be replayed as a result of the draw - not as a result of the administrative mix up. Which I suppose begs the question - why isn't the replay at Carshalton?
ps As a result of their incompetence, Post Office FC have been banned from entering the FA Trophy next season.

I think the reliance on the postal system is the Ryman League rather than the FA. The FA's rule (for FA Cup, Trophy and Vase matches) is simply that the player must be registered with the relevant league, as a player of the club by 12:00pm on the Friday for a match scheduled on the Saturday. If you are signing a player in the Ryman League there are 2 options. 1) Sign the player and post the paperwork to the league and hope that it reaches them and is processed by them in time to meet the cut off or 2) If you are in any doubt about getting the paperwork to the Ryman League in time you can fax the paperwork to them and they will grant a temporary emergency 7 day registration which they will then make permanent provided that they receive the original paperwork within 7 days

FAX !!! not seen one of those for at least 5 years. You would have thought in this day and age an online form would be used?
