Saturday's Match Thread

I have added this item to the forum as there does not seem to be anything about Saturday's game.

We are playing in what is our last opportunity to progress in a major cup competition this Saturday  against Dunstable Town.  The Blues (as they are known) play in the Premier Division of the Evo-stick Southern League, which is the equivalent of the Isthmian League Premier League, and are currently in 5th place. They share their ground with AFC Dunstable who play in the next Division down  in Evo-Stick league Division 1  Central.

In their first match in the FA Cup this season they were knocked out by Canvey Island losing 2-1 away. This is their first appearance in the Trophy this season will they be knocked out in this round? After our dismal FA Cup result and our great win at Norwich United in the preliminary round of the Trophy,  which way will Saturday's game  go?  The Terrors need to  take advantage of a home draw, and not waste the opportunity thrown away against East Preston.  Are the team up for this important fixture???

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

They are indeed 5th but only thanks to a blistering start to the campaign. Their recent form isn't so impressive, they've lost 6 of their last 7 league fixtures and can boast only 1 victory in the league since September 24th (narrowly beating 17th placed Dorchester 2-1 at home).

We must play with respect to our higher ranked oppo but without fear because confidence in our squad must be high at the moment.

Thoroughly looking forward to it. COME ON YOU STRIPES !!!

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Could not agree with you more Cricket, we most certainly have to respect our opponents, whoever they might be, but fear, no!
Having missed the last couple of games, like you buddy, can not wait until Saturday, even if it is just to see what affect Chace is having.
If last weeks game is anything to go on, from what I read, he might just prove the missing link.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Talking of 'missing links' I notice that Alex Penfold has played the last couple of games for Whyteleafe. I think we're scheduled to play them on new year's eve.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

If he is the older brother of a certain David Penfold who used to go to Western the same time as me Cricket, I do not think he will be such a threat as you think!

See you Saturday.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

With all due respect Ashtree, if David was at school with you, Alex is more likely to be his grandson than his older brother.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Good to see a prematch thread!

I see Scott Day has left us after a short stay, i guess someone had to make way for Chace...

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Surely Scott Day leaving has to do with more than Chace joining, after all he only joined a couple of weeks ago.
Geoff you need to have a word with Frank and ask him just what is going on!
If it is because of Chace joining, what will other players think before joining us.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

I would say that its more a case of having more chance of regular 1st team football.  He was on the bench at Walton for most of the season before coming to us.  And he will see that we are packed with decent central midfielders.  Then there is the new manager at Whyteleafe.  Possibly they know each other, or maybe he sees more chance of a regular 1st team place there.

I know he had a good goals record, but if players are going to leave us, then I'm glad its from our midfield contingent.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Trouble is Endo, from what Geoff was saying, he was going to be a good asset, especially his contribution in the goals for tally, something we desperately need .As much as I am pleased to see Chase back I wonder who would prove to be the better addition, we will now never know.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

From the little I saw of Scott I reckon him and Chace would've complimented each others games perfectly. Like you say Ash, now we'll never know.

Regarding tomorrow's game we can't afford to squander the amount of chances we've been doing for most of this season, we MUST be more clinical in front of goal.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Like you Cricket, if we could only start converting more of the chances we are creating things would be looking quite good.
Hopefully after Saturdays performance, who knows, Billy might go on a run, after all Jake did last season.

Re: Saturday's Match Thread

Working at home and other family commitments mean I won't be at the game today. So good luck the the mighty stripes. No doubt I will be kept up to date with the score.
