I see that Lee Hall, Adriano Moraes and Antonio Simeone have all been released. I suppose we are overloaded with midfielders and its not really a surprise to see Hall go. But as for Moraes and Simeone, it only really leaves us with 2 central defenders.

I assume Simmo was long term injured and therefore had to go to release some budget? Lee Hall was not getting a look in, and assume the management were bitterly disappointed with Moraes conduct the other day so have parted ways!
I reckon they either have someone ready to bring in or are working hard on getting a third CB in. Robbo can drop in there but I don't think he is a long term option and with Eddie Dines injured he will be required as our holding midfielder!

I haven't seen the U21s but it is very difficult to step up and become a 1st team player right away. Nunes looks like he may be an exception to the rule, but generally I feel that youth players need a couple of cup games and a few substitute appearances over 12-18 months, plus training with the first team to get to grips with the physicality and additional pressures that come with 1st team football.

That's the beauty of having an U21 side Endo. It bridges that gap between Youth football and men's football - something that we haven't had previously. Many of the players playing in that league are 20 year olds and the teams can of course also include up to 4 "over age" players so the physicality of that league gives the players a much better idea of what they will be facing in senior football than if they just try to make the jump from U18s/Youth level
