After the disastrous mini run with only 1 point from 12, the Terrors battled to defeat a resurgent Leafe 2-1. Two well taken goals by Wilson and Dixon set the Terrors on their way. Both teams had opportunities to score more, but either good goalkeeping and defensive tackling combined with some unbelievable misses kept the score to a minimum. The game was a stop start affair with the whistle continually blown for offside, fouls or other unknown reasons. Clearly at times the referee did not have a clue what was going on.
After a bumper attendance of 641 at Colston Avenue on Monday, there was a very poor turnout of 256 for this holiday and local derby fixture. We need a crowd of 385 plus against Casuals just to exceed the Robins home gate from both of our holiday fixtures.
The Casuals game at Guernsey on Friday was postponed due to fog, which leaves them fresh for the match at Imperial Fields. It was interesting to see a contingent from Casuals sitting in the stand yesterday. Yesterday witnessed a much improved defence with outstanding performances from SPB and Keeper Merson. Hopefully this improvement will be maintained against the Casuals, but they must concentrate and eradicate giving a last minute opportunities and goals away. After a run of 8 unbeaten league games ( 7 wins and a draw) including a 2-0 victory over Greenwich Borough, the Casuals are on a high, and will be looking to add to their superb run. Earlier in the season the Terrors earned 3-3 draw at the Tolworth based club.
The hard work in gaining a victory over Whyteleafe must not be thrown away against the Casuals if the Terrors are to maintain a play-off place. Even at this time of year this is a 6 pointer for either club tomorrow, and Casuals having games in hand due to 3 matches being postponed or abandoned.
Tooting need to take full advantage of this home fixture.
