T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

An excellent win against a good Casuals side. Injuries and suspensions meant an unfamiliar line up, with Merson again in goal, Robinson in at right back, Alimi and Rowe in central defence, Wilson joining O'Neil in central midfield, and Bassett and Hoban providing width on the wings.

Hoban was absolutely outstanding in the first half, delivering a succession of teasing crosses and opening the scoring direct from a corner. Casuals started the second half the stronger but we went 2-0 up when Roberts scored seconds after coming on. The customary defensive lapse brought Casuals briefly back into the game until Cunningham made things safe for us with a volley following good work by Roberts and Bassett.

Great entertainment. And a fine end to the festive period. Today showed we have real strength in depth and a strong team spirit. Who is to say we can't push Dorking Wanderes and Greenwich Borough all the way.

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

Today's overall performance was best team performance since Cray Wanderers Nov 5th !!

We defended as a team and attacked as a team and unfair to single out one player but Bash Alimi fought like his life depended on it at the back and Sandy Cunningham was here there everywhere didn't stop running and got his reward with the 3rd goal to see off casuals .

Casuals must be ruing Jamie Byatt Miss of the season at 1-0 down still he is a terror at heart we said on the terraces .

Good to see another good crowd and suddenly we are looking strong as a team - not a one man team A.K.A Billy Dunn who incidentally did not join the party again today drawing a blank again as Boro score 5 and Dunn nothing . Will he return back is the question with 1 goal in 5 appearances hardly setting the world alight.

Still second is where we are and I hope we can dig deep again with 2 tricky away games next .

Thoroughly enjoyed the game and totally agree about the presence of "Team spirit and determination" throughout the whole game. Lets keep the momentum throughout the winter months and beyond !!!! Well done lads.

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

Brilliant performance against a side who were previously unbeaten in quite a few league games I'm told.

We really clicked yesterday, and especially in the first half it was complete one way traffic. That's the best we've played since Billy has left, and getting Cunningham up close to Mike Dixon makes a huge difference. The link up play between them was really good, and Cunningham seems a strong signing who is an able replacement for Billy, but different in style of play and what we should expect from him.

Given the makeshift defense we had, we did concede chances, but this was to be expected. They hit the bar twice if i remember correctly, and Jamie missed a complete sitter. Luck was on our side with those chances.

You have to congratulate the management on their canny substitution(s). I for one was disappointed to see Claudio come off on 60 as I thought he was excellent in the first half, but that move proved a master stroke as Taurean stretched the game and immediately scored and assisted, effectively winning us the game.

I  wondered how we would cope when I saw the lineup, given the lack of defensive midfielder available and given that 2 of our back four were effectively midfielders (Bash, Robbo), but I must say we defended excellently - which really started from closing them down from the front. A team effort of defending, and it worked marvelously giving them no time on the ball at all. In particular Chace and Jordan in the midfield showed a defensive maturity which was pleasing to see, both are flair and attacking players by nature, but both were obviously asked to do a more settled job and provide cover for the defense, as well as get up the pitch and support attacks - well done to both!

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

Could not agree more with all the above.
An outstanding performance where the team showed real attacking intent right from the start.

Claudio did indeed have a great first half, receiving and holding up the ball well in addition to the menacing crosses mentioned by TT.

I would also like to shower Bash with praise.
Against Leafe he battled away for us in midfield winning countless challenges. Then yesterday it took until the last 5 mins before he finally missed a tackle at centre back.
Always the one preparing correctly as starter or sub, warming down properly and encouraging any unused subs to join him on sprints after a game.   Ultra professional.

After a hectic Xmas period the top teams seem to have a run of fixtures against seemingly easier opponents, with the exception of Carshalton hopefully recovering their mojo to take some points off Dorking next Monday.
Although all the top six have been capable of banana skin moments recently.

Need to reduce the frequency of these bookings.  Especially the foolish ones for persistent grabbing or back chat.  Don't want to reach the crucial period and find we have no players left.
Exciting times eh.

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

Agree about Bash. The thing with Bash is that he is so ruddy consistent and committed all of the time, that sometimes you forget to mention him, because he just does what he does. But i think credit where credit is due, he was excellent at CB and once again gave his absolute all. he is an absolute role model to any player at our level! An unsung hero a majority of the time!

Also, Kyle Merson was again very very assured. There was a save at 2-1 I believe which was fantastic and kept us in front (and allowed us to then go and win the game down the other end!). I think he has done a very good job across the last few games of "applying" for our no.1 spot. His kicking and catching are both superb! Competition vs Matte is really healthy for the team, I think he edges it for me, but let's give him a bit more game time to make a full impression. Anyone know what Matte's injury is?

Bondy you are right about bookings. Cunningham and O'Neil picked up silly ones yesterday. These will soon mount up and suspensions will kick in.

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

I was well pleased with that performance yestaday.First half is the best we have played in ages.I to was worried when I saw lineup.2 midfielders in defence. Both did really well.2nd half was a bit nervey.Merson has looked very secure since he came into team.I feel Tenny not at his best yet.Jordan played very well in a central roll.Barrington nearly scored but was disallowed .Still maybe missing a solid central midfielder with experience to play central with Chace and Robinson?Maybe?

Re: T&M 3 Corinthian Casuals 1

Speaking to Matte at the weekend, what at first seemed just a slight niggle has sadly not cleared up. And he is getting pain on the inside of his knee when doing anything more than straight line movement.
So a scan is needed.
Thankfully he has private health cover so hopefully that can be arranged quickly after an apppointment with a consultant this week.
Therefore it is great that Kyle has settled so well. Especially strong and determined when needing to come and punch the ball away.

Good to see Eddie Dines at the Casuals game.  The operation on his shoulder went well, he is in no discomfort and has started physio.  Let's hope for his return before the end of the season.

I was a bit concerned in the Robins game that we hardly saw Tennie get over the half way line Casey.
But against Casuals thought he was much more like his old self, in that true tradition of marauding Terror full backs. More to come.
