Alan Simpson

Really sad to see today that Alan Simpson of Galton and Simpson ( scriptwriters of Hancock, Steptoe and Son ) has
passed away. Alan was raised in Mitcham and went to the old Boys' Grammar School. He was also a big supporter
of T & M, especially in the 1940s/1950s. I spoke to him when researching my book "Tooting on the Move" and he was very happy to give me his memories - his favourite player was Laurie Hellard. He subsequently was President of
Hampton and Richmond FC for many years. I had the pleasure of meeting him a couple of times, including when I
was involved in the installation of a blue plaque at a TB Sanitorium in Godalming where he and Ray Galton first met.
He was a lovely, friendly man and will be much missed.

Re: Alan Simpson

Very sad news. Alan was my 'opposite number' when we used to play Hampton in football quizzes.  After a cup match against them both sides realised that we weren't much good but had had such a laugh that we decided to play each other regularly.  A really good guy.
