And don't forget the goal scoring record of 103 set in 1946! Although that season there were only 26 games! Did they have goalies back in those days?

Do you remember the weekly feature on Badiell and Skinner's 'Fantasy Football' show ? it was called 'Old Goalkeepers Were Crap' or something and usually featured Pathe News footage of a keeper in the 50's wearing a polo necked sweater and flat cap diving forlornly over a daisy cutter which would nestle in the bottom corner of the net at White Hart Lane. I'm sure our older registered users will assure us that some keepers in the 40's and 50's were actually quite good but the evidence would suggest that while they were very brave (and needed to be) they didn't quite reach the shot saving standards of a Petr Cech or a Kyle Merson.
