Why this posting. As a young lad, he was my hero, and a huge TV personality in the early days of live TV sports coverage. Also drawing crowds of 40,000 plus to the famous White City Stadium. When he moved to London he joined South London Harriers and was often seen at Sandy Lane, and at one home game he was sitting as a spectator on the bench . I plucked up courage to speak to him and also get his autograph.
I suspect Cecil Dale the club's fitness coach, who was also an Athletic official and coach and served on the Amateur Athletic Association Committee and several other Athletic Boards, including the Commonwealth Games Board, introduced "Ibbo" to the club. Cecil hoped one day Footballers would train like Athletes, as he considered them very lazy!!!!

Did he arrive at that conclusion watching the Terrors train at Sandy Lane.

Cecil Dale was a very hard task master. He probably did come to the conclusion watching the Terrors train. He changed their fitness work dramatically, with the net result being one of the most successful amateur clubs in the country and the club's history.
