The game changer last weekend was the disappointing result for the Terrors when losing their record winning streak, when beaten by Horsham. This still left 3 teams in the race for automatic promotion, and the Terrors closest rivals Dorking Wanderers closing the gap to 6 points. Greenwich and Dorking played their games in hand of Tooting Tuesday, and both had very comfortable wins. All three teams in contention for the league title now start this Saturdays fixtures on 41 games played, but Dorking have closed the gap to 3 points. Possible points and actual in brackets are as follows:-
Tooting and Mitcham United - 110 (95)
Dorking Wanderers - 107 (92)
Greenwich Borough - 97 (82)
with just 5 games to play the Terrors have 3 home and two away fixtures. This Saturday's fixtures include:-
Tooting and Mitcham United V's South Park.
Although soundly beaten by Dorking Tuesday, South Park are still in the chase for a place in the play-offs. This will be another difficult fixture for the Terrors.
Cray Wanderers V's Dorking Wanderers
Cray fresh from their 2-1 from their home win against Herne Bay last night, may prove a difficult match for Dorking as the home club still have a remote chance of a play-off position.
Herne Bay V's Greenwich Borough
Herne Bay have nothing left this season to play for but pride. On paper this match is the easiest for the 3 contenders. However, The Bay are not a push over, as the Terrors experienced recently, let's hope they put up a another good display.
Lastly the Terrors form , league position and free scoring displays have been worthy of large crowds, but sadly these have only been witnessed at away games. Tooting have yet to exceed 300 for a home league game which to say the least is " Very Disappointing." The offer of free entry to the game this weekend should help exceed the 300 mark. Local clubs Sutton and Dulwich have gone down this route on occasions with some spectacular successes. Dulwich also have other community schemes which ensure large home gates. Although late on the scene, let's hope this incentive is rewarded with a bumper gate.
Keep Calm

5-0 defeats today for Herne Bay and Hythe Town (the next Dorking opponents) suggest we are not going to get any help.
Although Hythe do have a strangely impressive away record of W12 D1 L8 so I'll cling to that.
And Guernsey can be a very different prospect at home and could perhaps sneak a draw.
Otherwise we will just have to do the job ourselves, hopefully with just a little more confidence in that worrying period before we score the first goal.

If Guernsey beat Carshalton today (and they are winning as I write ) it would seal Three Bridges relegation. But if anyone is under the misapprehension that it will make our next league game a gimme, we need only to see that already relegated Godalming pulled off a 1-0 win at Hastings yesterday

We approach the last 3 weeks of the season, and the original 9 clubs in the chase are now down to the 2 favourites. after this weekend's results Greenwich drop out of the race due to points on the board..
Last Saturday Dorking had a comfortable win away to Cray Wanderers, whilst Greenwich with 10 men devastated Herne Bay. The Terrors were involved in a dire game, and were made to fight for their 2-0 win despite a lack of attacking ambitions from South Park. There was some consolation from the win as the Terrors now have at Minimum a home draw, if required to compete in the play-off finals. Although Greenwich still had a very slim chance of automatic promotion, and having an easy win on Saturday, they dropped out of contention due to the current points position. The points possible and Actual(Brackets) are as follows:-.
Tooting and Mitcham United 110 (98)
Dorking Wanderers 107 (95)
Games to play
Saturday 8th April
Tooting V's Three Bridges
Herne Bay V's Dorking
Saturday 15th April
Ramsgate V's Tooting
Dorking V's Hythe Town
Monday 17th April
Tooting V's Carshalton Ath
Guernsey V's Dorking
Saturday 22nd April
Dorking V's Tooting
There is a huge scrap with 9 clubs competing for the 3 remaining play-off positions, points possible shown and actual (Brackets) are as follows:-
Greenwich 97 (85)
C Casuals 93 (81)
Carshalton 87 (75)
Lewes 86 (74)
Hastings 88 (73)
Hythe 83 (71)
Faversham 79 (67)
Cray 75 (63)
South Park 82 (61)
Looks like a nail biting finale to the season!

The Tooting thouroughbred is 3 lengths clear with 4 hurdles left to jump. The going in the final straight should be good (firm in places). With the jockey sized Paul Dale on board hopefully there'll be no need for him to crack the whip. The finish line is almost in sight, have we got the stamina and the pedigree ?

Funny you should say that, the way I see it, the task now (keeping the goal difference) is four points to get in three games.
Fortunately I start two weeks leave from the 16th.....so am determined to join everyone and see some of these points in action (Carshalton & Dorking games I'm looking at, gonna be tough but this is the crucial time now), thing is all three of the fixtures look like hard ones - but keep it together Tooting, the black & white army!

As they approach the 4th from home, the leader has a slight peck, but recovers well. The second horse loses a stirrup (2nd top goal scorer) and falls further behind. The two leaders head towards the next two flights that come tvery close together. But is the extra weight of the 2nd horse coming from so far behind beginning to take its toll?
Just a reminder that goals count as double in the final game. A plus 1 for one team is a minus 1 for the other.

So we could win the title at any of the next 3 games. If we beat Ramsgate or Carshalton and Dorking fail to beat Hythe or Guernsey, then its ours. Similarly if we pick up 6 points over Easter its ours, regardless of what Dorking do.
And even the worst case scenario where we lose our next 2 and Dorking win their next 2, we still go into the last game knowing a win would give us the title.
The finishing line is in sight - we just need to get over it by hook or by crook.

Tooting have guaranteed a minimum of a home draw in the play-offs if everything else fails, Dorking still need another point if they need a failsafe position. After witnessing a goal scoring spree, and a record breaking run, The Terrors have struggled over the last few games. However, they have managed somehow to win games, which at times did not seem possible. Against Three Bridges on Saturday you would never have imagined who was top and bottom of the league. Up to the final minute on Saturday, the look of anxiety on many Terror fans faces reflected recent games.
Dorking dropped two valuable points, and their main striker who was sent off last weekend when they visited Herne Bay. The previous week Greenwich went to Herne Bay and thrashed them 5-0 with 10 men. A similar result by Dorking would have considerably shrunk the goal advantage the Terrors enjoy at the moment. Although gaining another 2 point advantage over Dorking last Saturday, this really does not make difference in the race to become champions, as Tooting still need 6 points to guarantee the championship.
After losing away to a determined but mediocre Horsham side, Tooting travel to Ramsgate on Saturday facing a similar game. This is followed by a Derby game with Carshalton on Easter Monday, who still have ambitions in making the play-offs.
Dorking are at home to Hythe Town who are also clinging to play-off hopes, but they are not the same team after losing "One Man Team" Alfie May to Doncaster Rovers. The Wanderers have to Travel to Guernsey for their final away game of the season, the home club are battling relegation, and I suspect a huge home crowd will make this the game like a Cup-Final.
The possible points for the contenders (Actual in Brackets) are as follows:-
Tooting and Mitcham United 110 (101)
Dorking Wanderers 107 (96)
Games to play
Saturday 15th April
Ramsgate V's Tooting
Dorking V's Hythe Town
Monday 17th April
Tooting V's Carshalton Ath
Guernsey V's Dorking
Saturday 22nd April
Dorking V's Tooting
The scrap for the play off positions has been reduced from 9 to 8 clubs with Cray Wanderers beaten soundly at home on Sunday by Hastings. Greenwich have already booked their place in the play- offs , the remaining 2 play-off positions seem to be a battle between Corinthian Casuals and Hastings, with an outside chance for Carshalton and Lewes to impress over the weekend.
Greenwich 97 (88)
C Casuals 93 (84)
Carshalton 84 (74)
Lewes 83 (74)
Hastings 88 (73)
Hythe 81 (72)
Faversham 79 (70)
Cray 75 (63)
South Park 79 (67)
Sport in about the uncertainty, nothing is guaranteed, this should prove to be an exciting weekend

It could be a mistake - they do have errors on that page from time to time. Otherwise, why would he (Gunner) have a 3 match ban? He hasn't been sent off recently, and it doesn't even look as if he's passed the yellow card limit.
Perhaps he hasn't paid his subs.

Gunner's suspension is shown on the FA site as being for "Head to Head - Violent Conduct - Law 12 S2". It might have happened after the final whistle.

..............and apparently so I'm told (according to Dave Irons) Carshalton's goalie last Saturday played for us sometime in the Sandy Lane days so he must be in his 90's by now !

Yes, and we will take all that is offered 59er, to help us over the line.

3 draws from our last 3 games would put us on 104 points and clinch the title. However, a win at Ramsgate would put us on 104 points but wouldn't necessarily be enough if we were to lose our last 2 games. A win at Ramsgate and a draw in either of our last 2 games would suffice provided Dorking don't beat somebody 12-0. Simply beating Dorking would do it even if we lost our next 2. If we lose our last 3 (God forbid) we could be in the sh*t (otherwise known as the play offs). Depending on what Dorking do in their next 2 games we could still lose all our games and still clinch the title.
Got all that ?

Another disappointing display by the Terrors throwing a one goal advantage, and very lucky to survive a loss. Championship rivals Dorking score another late winner in the 86th minute to beat Hythe Town at home. This is a mediocre league and the Terrors are no exception at this time, and leaves the championship wide open on their current form.
Saturday's insipid performance witnessed many individual players playing below par, and the breezy conditions and the hard undulating pitch did not help matters . The Rams playing against the wind in first half looked well organised in defence and were creating more in attacking positions . Against the run of play and towards the end of the half, Chace O'neil dispatched a wind curling cross in to the net. The second half was basically dictated by Ramsgate who twice hit the bar and caused panic in the Terrors defence. Early in the half the Rams scored after a Terrors attacking move broke down, with the ball given away easily, exposing the away teams defence. The Rams breaking decisively presented the ball to Jake Mackenzie who struck an unstoppable shot into the net. The Tooting strike force should note this is the way to score goals, not some of the pathetic efforts seen yesterday.
The introduction of Dan Clements mid-way through the second half introduced a player in form which made a huge difference to the sporadic Terrors attacks. Sandy Cunningham sat on the bench the whole game yesterday, his tireless running and enthusiasm was sorely missed.
The championship position with possible points and actual shown in brackets, as follows:-
Tooting and Mitcham United 108 (102)
Dorking Wanderers 105 (99)
Dorking along with Tooting have now secured a minimum of a home draw in the play-offs if either fail to win the championship. Greenwich have secured their play-off position with three clubs fighting for the remaining two places. Possible points and actual in Brackets, as follows:-
Play off positions
Greenwich 97 (91)
C Casuals 93 (87)
Hastings 88 (80)
Carshalton 84 (78)
The Easter holiday games are coming at a crucial time for all teams wishing to get promoted.
The Terrors have a home game against Carshalton who still have a slim chance of a play-off place, and the game will not be easy if Tooting fail to shake off recent underperforming displays.
Dorking travel to Guernsey , with the home team safe in the knowledge they cannot be relegated. The game starts at 2pm, and the Terrors will be aware by half time in their home game what they are required to achieve against Carshalton.

Good shout on all of that Mike, and indeed for this thread in general - an excellent collection of stats and analysis in the final run. Carshalton is going to be very tough indeed and I'm certain a few people will be checking Football Web Pages from 14:00 on the Saturday.
Still a chance with a Tooting win and a Dorking loss (or draw) of the race being won tomorrow, but best to expect any outcome and battle to the last. In the event of a Tooting loss and Dorking win tomorrow, then getting at least a draw on Saturday (with not too many opposition goals scored) will provide some extra atmosphere on what I'm certain will be a charged game anyway.......

Since starting this thread on the 8th March there were 9 teams in contention to win the league, with The Terrors, Dorking and Greenwich as favourites The league positions were:-
P Pts
1. Tooting and Mitcham Utd 38 89
2. Dorking Wanderers 38 83
3. Greenwich Borough 36 72
4. Corinthian Casuals 37 69
5. Hastings United 37 67
6. Carshalton Athletic 38 67
7. Lewes 37 67
8. Hythe Town 37 67
8. South Park 30 54
Amazingly, with one match to be played by all teams, the positions of the top 6 has not changed.
1. Tooting and Mitcham Utd 45 105
2. Dorking Wanderers 45 102
3. Greenwich Borough 45 92
4. Corinthian Casuals 45 90
5. Hastings United 45 81
6. Carshalton Athletic 45 78
Freak results this Saturday may let in Carshalton if they win by a big score and Hastings lose by a big score . The same can be said of the Terrors match at Dorking.
Obviously the game of the season is at Dorking this weekend, and nothing is settled until the" Fat Lady Sings." After making a humbling error in thinking the Terrors had a 9 goal cushion after the game on Saturday after being informed it was only 5 goals, as any goals scored by Dorking would in fact count as double, because the 2 leading teams are playing each other. A 5 goal advantage is a another matter. The game will be tense, the Terrors have somehow struggled their way over the last few games and failed to find the fluency and free scoring form which took them on a record league run. The relief by the players and fans when the Terrors scored a late winning goal on Monday was plain to see.
Tooting have worked hard since their record run ended, somehow scraping points together to give the opportunity of being champions. After the disastrous last few seasons this has come at a welcome time for the Football club. A strong and determined performance should see them home safely. However, there is always the unguided missile, known as the referee. Last Monday witnessed a ref totally out of control, he wanted the game to be centred on him, and also handing out many unnecessary yellow cards and free kicks to both teams. His decisions interrupted a good and fair contest and any chance of flowing football. All the match I thought he would hand out a red card to someone, fortunately this never materialised. Let's hope there is a more sensible and understanding ref on Saturday, otherwise it may turn into nightmare.
I echo 59ers words on crowd behaviour, invading the pitch on Monday after the goal was scored was not a good advert for the club. Let's hope the ref has not reported this incident. Any further bad behaviour whether spoken or physical on Saturday may undo a whole season of enjoyment, tense times, and hopefully promotion. We all hope common sense prevails.
Dorking have everything to play for, and absolutely nothing to lose, the Terrors have everything to play for, and absolutely everything to lose!

Its a big test for the management. They have to ensure that the team play their normal game. Even if we concede an early goal, the last thing we must do is get into a defensive mindset. Also, they have to get the players up for the game, but at the same time, make sure that they don't start too hyper!
I would set the team up much the same as its been for the latter half of the season (except that I would have a sub goalie on the bench).
