2017 is a year double celebration for the Terrors. 60 years after our first season in the Isthmian League we are now back where we started, albeit under a different league name re-branding.
Secondly, 130 years ago in 1887 Tooting Graveney were formed. Contrary to some comments, without Tooting Graveney there would not be Tooting And Mitcham United Football Club or even the current home venue of Imperial Fields. Tooting Town, As they eventually became known, owned the freehold to Sandy Lane, thus enabling the club to continue, and being able to integrate neighbours Mitcham Wanderers. Both clubs had dire financial issues, and the Wanderers had just lost their ground.
We have to be really grateful to all those fans and committee members who saved the club, and went on to develop one of the most successful amateur clubs in the country. Football today is totally different in the way it operates from "Yester Year", with teams being able to have dreams of making the Premier League from whatever level they currently participate in!
Getting back to reality, with only one club being relegated this season from the Isthmian League Premier Division, now known for the next few years as the Bostik League, and will provide some breathing space for the club. This is now a very competitive league, with many club's making significant signings in the close season. The Terrors will have to adjust to this level of Football, whether its playing staff, financial commitment, and extra travel and costs. Only time will tell if the Terrors make the grade in all aspects of this new venture. This is not the same league we left in disgrace during in 2012, when not winning any of our last 16 games. Please not a repeat of this total mess and shambles!
