Egham game

Another 3 points and another clean sheet.  OK - we were playing the bottom of the table but these games still have to be won.

It leaves us 4 points behind Westfield for the final playoff spot with 15 games to play.  Still quite a few points to play for and there are still quite a few teams that will still have their eyes on the playoffs.

Although we have picked up a few decent results lately we haven't managed to rid ourselves of the habit of dropping unexpected points every now and then.

It goes without saying that we need to get a decent unbeaten run going.  Tomorrows game might be a key indicator.  On the one hand Bedfont are only 7 points behind us so it should be a tough game.  But on the other hand they are also in the bottom half of the table and if we have serious aspirations of the playoffs we really should be picking up 3 points.

Re: Egham game

Why did you have to go and spoil it 59er.

Re: Egham game

Egham were the most limited team I have seen this season, and without a drastic improvement I cannot see them surviving. If one or two of our numerous chances been converted in the first half it could a been a hatfull.

So, yes, a welcome 3 points and that is all I can say about the game as Egham were so poor.
I'm sure we are all desperate to get out of this division, the difference in quality of opposition is more than you would expect from a normal relegation, it is more like dropping two divisions. Whether or not we can achieve promotion remains to be seen. I just don't want us to settle at this really low level and for it to become the new normal.

Re: Egham game

From what we've seen this season, if we were to stay in the division next year and providing we can keep the majority of our young talent, I reckon we can do very well and be promoted. This season was, in a sense, transitional as the new management get bedded in and bring through the youngsters into the first team. The development even from early on this season has been really good, I think- young lads coping better with the more alehouse sides and starting to get wins their performances deserve. I'm quietly optimistic about the future.

Re: Egham game

Andy Mac, couldn’t agree more with all the contents of your posting.   Dreadful league and the Terrors (what a waste of terminology) are part of the low life performances in this league. Basically, South Central is now the equivalent of the Combined Counties League. The only real hope for promotion is to win the league outright.   The FA shambles of the promotion play-offs at this level offers little hope at all!

Without some aspiration for investment, ambitions or even a plan to take the team forward, the current predicament will surely become the norm.  How can a team with a great past, first class facilities and a great fan catchment area be in such a mess!

Re: Egham game

59er - they might have a good recent home record, but we are top of the "away" form table having won 7 out of our last 8 away games!

I don't think many of our performances have been low life, to be honest. They've been performances of a young side, with a young couple of lads at the helm, trying to play decent football among a load of yard dog lads who want to lump it. I haven't been coming to TMUFC for long, so have no investment in the rich history of the club- but I think that the way its currently being run is cause for some optimism. Hopefully other talented young players will note the success of the club in terms of getting lads seen by league clubs and earning trials, which will attract them here to play their football.

Last season was a kick in the arse, but don't forget that in September/October we were genuinely worried about successive relegations. Now, we're looking up at a playoff spot and, if not this season, mounting a proper tilt at it next year on this season's foundations. Our away form is the best in the division, and we're seeing some decent performances at home, without the results they deserve at times. I thoroughly believe those results will come.

Re: Egham game

Well said, mate. Huge 3 points last night, and Molesey did us a huge favour with a shock 3-2 win at Ashford, who were breathing down our necks! Cheshunt also suffered a surprise 'home' defeat to FC Romania (though they share the same ground) which helped us cut the deficit to them. Just a shame Waltham Abbey came from behind to win at Hanwell or it could have been the perfect night.
