Re: 6th March 1976

Hi Andy ,It was my birthday that day and I travelled by supporters coach to  to  Scarborough, we played really well considering Scarborough were on there way to  the Football League.  Nice fresh fish and chips actually the best  I have tasted, so much so my life long friend and fan  Billy Bush bought some fresh fish to  take back with him.  Unfortunately the whole coach smelt like Billingsgate fish market  when we returned to  Tooting. Happy memories..

Andy pleased to  see you around still.

Re: 6th March 1976

Hope you are well Mike.   I think you worked at Lunar House many moons ago with my mum (Elizabeth/ Betty Taylor).  Sad to report she died last May, at the age of 87.    Although not a Terrors fan she was a local girl, having met my dad at Wimbledon speedway in the early 50s!

Re: 6th March 1976

Most of us went to Scarborough by a football special (organised by Colin Gaitt)  with a change at York. On the way up the train was mainly full of Palace supporters en route to their victory at Sunderland and coming back we shared a coach with some very chastened London based Sunderland fans who were nevertheless planning to go up for a Youth Cup match a few days later. While waiting at York on the way home a train came in full of Newcastle supporters (and police) fresh from a 4-2 defeat at Derby. They did not get out but when we went into the station cafe with our black and scarves  the assistant eyed us nervously and said "bad luck Geordies".That same day Harrogate Town drew 2-2 with . Yorkshire Amateurs in Yorkshire League 2.

Re: 6th March 1976

The only sour note for me was when the supporters coach was leaving Scarborough by the sea front overlooked by the cliffs behind, Scarborough fans starting throwing stones and other missiles at  the coach. Many hit the coach I m not sure how much damaged had been done.

Re: 6th March 1976

I remember this happening as we were leaving after our visit to Bradford City,  Don't know what they would have done if they had lost!

Re: 6th March 1976

Yes, another shameful action by the Bradford fans. The police were expecting trouble, they provided an escort from the station and back again. I understand someone was seriously hurt. Although the Terrors lost they outplayed Bradford and did not deserved to  lose, in a ground packed with hostility.
