Yes Gary. Let us hope that they hang on to their ground. I've always enjoyed going there over the years.

Copied fromthe Lost Croydon and surrounding area forever gone... Facebook page with permission of Cliff Colvin. It sums it up really.:
"Hang your head in shame Ian Rush MBE. He and his far eastern friends have been buying up football clubs including Whyteleafe, Abingdon and Brighouse Town. Yesterday 2 of them resigned from The Isthmian League. The Rush Foundation boasts of its " commitment to grass roots football" Yesterdays action brought an end to over 200 years of games at both grounds.Leafe's Church Road stadium is often cited as one the countries prettiest grounds and is only a 10 minute walk from 3 railway stations. The 500k Irama Sports paid looks like a bargain for prime Surrey real estate ideally situated for commuters to get into London but at the expense of men, women and youth football teams at the heart of the community."

Sad to read Whyteleafe have now resigned from the Isthmian League, and that will be one less club in the South Central League, and sadly a missing local derby!
The Property developers strike again, and the story behind this tragic loss is both horrendous and ridiculous, especially with the money spent on their all weather pitch.

It is now a Steve Gerrard football academy.

Poor ol Whyteleafe dumped for a money making academy, plus future developments.. There is enough academies in the South London area already. How many of these academy players will make the big time, not very many. Whyteleafe who would be able to provide a club and matches for these disillusioned academy players, unfortunately will not be able to.
