So, tomorrow sees a more localised match against a team with a bit of punch compared to many. Walton & Hersham have faced us before and accelerated their standing since moving from the very grotty (and previously their signature) Stompond Road ground and up into a higher league. W&H are doing a grand job in the Isthmian and the South Central table.
Being well within the playoff zone and with lower position teams in a crucial area, namely Merstham v Chipstead, which is achievable for Merstham on their current form, and SCR and Guernsey facing questionable results (Westfield seems a possibility for one but can you discount Basingstoke Town on the other), there the catalyst for opportunities. Without meaning to sound bad, there’s the potential for us to go bottom this weekend. It’s gripping stuff, and all to play for.
And I always loved the old Walton Casuals. People from T&M used to go down to their old ground slagging it off saying ‘how could this even be league standard’ but the Stags were a lovely bunch of people, so friendly and you could meet a character like Ray Lewington who would turn up at even minor games and would have the crack (craic) with us non-leagers. A great club, and should have survived, I’d rather see The Stags still here compared to some others.
Edit - Guernsey game at Westfield is off, along with a couple of others in the league.
