Stefan's thoughts on Balham game

Apologies to  Stefan and forum members, I have had problems with my PC and have only just been able to  post this message

Yesterday’s match against Balham was enjoyable with Tooting having several clear-cut chances to increase their lead, but were not taken unfortunately.

That leads to the one big question that every Tooting & Mitcham supporter are asking themselves. Where are our future goals coming from in 2026, with Shay leaving for Singapore ? Our experience No.9 has proven many times over that he can score goals given the opportunity, but who is going to take his place and has he had the opportunities as we were all expecting this season.

Has the service been right. Well, perhaps not when you take into consideration how many goals we have scored this season. The goals often coming from unexpected sources like Max Olham who is proving to be the class player he is. Our young forwards need to step up, only showing glimpses of what they can do but is it enough. The jury is out. I do believe they are getting there based upon yesterday’s play, but focus must be on accurate shooting, passing and taking advantage of set pieces, using our wing backs to create those opportunities when the arise.

Defence was solid yesterday, midfield getting better with time, just more goals please. Something management needs to address so we have a strike force worthy of competing for a playoff place at the end of this season. Aren’t we capable of attracting a seasoned striker that we often had in the past, that can guarantee us goals or am I just wishing for the impossible. Something management needs to contemplate if we are going to maintain our position in the play-offs this
season.

Re: Stefan's thoughts on Balham game

Losing Shay Brennan is a serious blow to our playoff chances. He was the class act that guaranteed goals even in a team that struggled in previous seasons. As Stefan says, where are his goals going to come from now? Max Oldham is our other class player who scores a few but he's not a centre forward, he plays further back and provides opportunities for others. Alex Cruickshank is a player that I thought would progress rapidly and be taken by another club but this season this has not happened and he has not even been able to get into the starting eleven of late. Anybody else in our squad that has been tried up front has had no goal threat whatsoever. So, get someone in. Brennan must have been on decent money, so getting a proven goalscorer at this level, or even a level higher must be possible. Playing at a stadium with facilities like ours must be an attraction, surely?
