Next Season

Two out of the last three seasons in this league have had one team dominate and run away with the title, ie Farnham and Cobham, leaving the rest with the lottery of the playoff system. Could that team be us next season? Would you want to win the league that way, or have it close right up to the end? Who are the favourites? We have to be in that conversation, along with Tadley, Redhill, Knaphill and Fleet who have all been in contention in recent seasons.
Jamie Byatt has given us steady improvement since he has been manager, has he got what it takes to get us over the line this time?

Re: Next Season

Hello Andy Mc,
You raise some great questions which I suspect remain unchallenged, unless Woolley is still around. Take a look at the new chairman of football appointment. The football team has  travelled that direction many times, and the team has not benefited at all, but the coffers have swelled  at the hub from a handful of players who have made the grade elsewhere. Major changes are needed to the whole operation from the Owner at the top and downwards A new dynamic leadership which incorporates the approach of the actual football team as the hub of the organisation which also serves the community. There are so many clubs throughout the country who operate this system.

This statement was made 20 years ago when the club and facility was taken over. "The challenge is to  make Tooting & Mitcham United FC the best semi-professional club in the land, one built on sound practice in all matters", (What happened lol).

PS : We are not even the best non league team in the Borough of Merton

Re: Next Season

I agree with Mike.  For me it is irrelevant who the manager is.  It is the cabal who are in control of the club that decides it's destiny.  Unless there is a massive change of policy regarding the direction of the FOOTBALL CLUB at the very top, Tooting and Mitcham will go nowhere.  Just remember our fantastic season when we were last promoted to the Isthmian Premier:  the rug was pulled from under the team until we ended up in this Micky mouse league.

Re: Next Season

Agree whole heartedly with the last two responses. If only we could return to Sandy Lane in the mid 1970’s I say !!!!

Re: Next Season

The new chairman looks to have quite a bit of involvement at the club behind the scenes, but its unlikely he will have any influence on the 1st teams chances of getting us promoted out of this league. Those decisions lie with our owner, who see's the 1st team as a burden. If we ever get promoted, it will be despite of Adkins, not because of him.

Re: Next Season

I fully agree with you Andy.

Tooting need to dominate and win this division.  Then consolidate before dominating and winning the next division.  But, as I and many others have posted on this blog for years:  the owner does not seem the share this Ideal.
