What happened to the topic about Jamie Byatt that I responded to this morning Admins?

Oh no Gary, just as I wanted to do some name dropping of my own.
Jimmy Greaves was my absolute hero.
I watched him play for Spurs a good number of times, mainly during his years of combining with the mercurial Alan Gilzean and then later with Martin Chivers, which did not work as well.
His poster was on my bedroom wall and I met the great man in person and got an autograph I still have.
And of course I attended his testimonial against Feyenoord.
Watch his goals on YouTube etc. The greatest ever finisher?
Hopefully he can make a reasonable recovery. True Legend.

357 first division goals. 44 England goals in 57 games. But still people said he was lazy!

He is also a Chelsea Legend hope he recovers ....
Very true Gaz and it reminds me of one of my favourite football anecdotes when Greavsie said " If you ask London football fans who I played my best football for ? Chelsea fans will say Chelsea, Spurs fans will say Spurs, and West Ham fans will say either Chelsea or Spurs " I love that.
Personally I felt I played my best football for Streatham Albion ( it's alright, nobody has ) as a cultured right-back although I was given a right good runaround by 'QPR Emile' in a cup game once when I had to play out of position in centre midfield.......the words headless and chicken spring to mind.

A player who was appreciated by football lovers all over the country.
I remember also the television programme he used to be on " Saint & Greavsie" which featured Ian St. John of Liverpool, another football great.
Good luck and best wishes to Jimmy and his family, hope he gets well soon.

Loved Jimmy Greaves as a player. A fantastic scoring record at international level as well. Another favourite of mine from the era was Alan "sniffer" Clarke at Leeds.

Yes - I hadn't heard about old Greavesie until I saw this thread - I hope he gets on the mend soon. I was very young when S&G was on the tv, and I think it's because of that I treasure Jimmy Greaves as an institution more. It makes me think of a part of my life when things were more exciting and there was more atmosphere.......late 80s/early 90s was better than now, though for me the worst part for atmosphere was the early 00's (terrible era)........
Talking of a 'sniffer' and Greavesie, there's this bit of pure gold:
And indeed while doing ironing a while back watched an entire episode of S&G, but didn't know if I was happy at the end or gutted that things have changed so much since then. Hearing expressions such as 'Rumbelows Cup' made me smile a lot......
So yes, fingers and toes crossed for Greavesie and his recovery - hope the road there isn't as long as some of the papers have made out.........
