Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Andy, in the clip shown he played on the left, so where does that leave Max? he certainly has good feet , but from the short clip shown he is a bit like other players we have had on the wing, does not look up, but he certainly looks interesting, perhaps dropping down a level might suit him better.

Hi Al. I'm not sure about Franks plans as to where he will play. We will find out soon! ⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽⚽

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Serge Makofo: That clip was from 2011-12 I would imagine a lot could have happened between then & now. All I know the manager that the manager that signed him for Grimsby Town & gave him a 3 year contract was sacked 18 months after he signed Serge. The chairman thought that Serge was not of a good standard & he released him saying he was really rubbish. Lets hope he was wrong, only time will tell.

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

That`s really cheery Geoff, perhaps he is another one who does a lot of showboating but the end return is not consistant, but as I said earlier, dropping down might suit him, and us.

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

In our recent past we've had numerous ex-conference (or higher) players and quite a number of loanees from pro clubs.  But I can't remember being impressed by any of them.  It must be difficult to motivate yourself playing in our division when you have either played at a much higher level or are hoping to make it as a pro. And at 28 years old, is Makofo ready to buckle down for a long season with us?  Looking at his Wikipedia page, he's played for at least 17 clubs in the last 10 years and is yet to crack the 30 game mark with any of them!  I'm sure he's got the talent - but will he have the drive?

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Blimey! Gary , we have not even kicked a ball yet, and you are already disgruntled.
Must agree with you "Endo", when you read his CV, it does leave a few doubts, but who knows, playing for the mighty "TERRORS" may be just the kick up the **** his career needs, I certainly hope so because if he does realise that the playing clock is ticking down, who knows what he may achieve.

I'm waiting to see a photo of him in the Wimbledon Guardian stood in front of the main stand holding a Tooting & Mitcham scarf above his head and saying " This is a dream come true, it's always been my ambition to represent the stripes. Ever since I was a young boy growing up in Kinshasa in the Democratic Republic of Congo playing football in the street with my friends, I dreamed one day of playing for Tooting. When we played on the streets of Kinshasa I always used to pretend I was Dave Juneman, I was a massive fan of his. I had offers from Juventus, Bayern Munich and Manchester United but once I knew of Mr Wilson's interest it was a no-brainer."

I'll give it 6 weeks

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

It's all very well reading who is supposed to be coming and who is going, but no mention yet of a goalkeeper. Does this mean Bondy will have to step in!!

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

We do have a couple of slightly over weight fans... I'd offer but my backs been playing me up...

It worked for Chelsea with 'Fatty Foulke' all those years ago

Gary Walker hinted in a previous post that 'Smudger' Smith might be on his way back. I bloody hope so.

Why do we all assume (myself included) that because of his size Bondy would be a good bloke to stick in goal ? He could be used just as effectively as a 'back four' meaning we could string 7 across the middle.

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Very good idea, Bog End. Useful to have a player to cover many positions!

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

That all started well Greg.  And then it went downhill rapidly for me, as usual.

I could not make the trial but rest assured I will be at the first night of training on Tuesday all kitted out and ready to go.  In my tennis kit that is.

Fron talking to him, Smudger Smith was ready for action towards the end of last season. But it was not deemed worth returning at that stage.  Better to be 100% ready for the new season. And I hope that is the case.
If not, I'll be ready to step in and do a job.  With a pair of Eric Morecombe style oversize tennis rackets strapped to both hands that is.
I'd have to stop the shots because, like Harry, I could not contemplate all that bending to pick the balls out of the net.

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

All sounding very promising however as I have said before, nobody actually "signs" until about a week before the season when the Ryman League registration forms have to be in

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Still a chance that some other team will come in for Bondy then!! Oh well. Always thought that Smith was better than Bondy anyway so lets keep our fingers crossed that he signs.

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

Did anybody go down to the ground today to see the trialists. If so, did anybody stand out ? Would I be correct in saying that something will be going on Tuesday evening ?

Re: New signing Serge Makofo on You Tube...

The trials match was good. All the players had to send in a CV to be considered. Another one next Sunday at 3pm. Thanks Wolfie.

Football is all about opinions and I won't deny you yours Greg, but in this instance I must beg to differ.
