I notice it is somebody called 'Mike of Wetherby'. Could this be Bog End Tim's good mate, the well spoken gentleman who moved up Yorkshire way a couple of seasons back ? If it is,or even if it isn't, I must tell the story of Chalfont St Peter away, I'm guessing '91-'92 ish.
Me and my mate Clive had got the train from Marylebone after work for the evening kick off. On arrival at Chalfont the weather gods greeted us with a heavy shower for our walk to the ground. As the game started the heavy shower had developed into a deluge/downpour/monsoon of biblical proportions (what my old Mum used to call 'Hollywood rain' cos it never drizzles in Hollywood films, it only ever pisses down, ask Gene Kelly). The rain was making a deafening sound beating against the roof of the rickety old stand where almost the entire crowd had taken refuge. I say almost because gazing out from our covered haven I spotted two figures behind the goal to our left. Huddled together, penguinesque, under a black and white golf umbrella were Bog End Tim and the aforementioned well spoken gentleman. I remember thinking to myself "That is beyond the call of duty." It's not my memory playing tricks, I swear to God they were the only 2 people in the ground brave/silly enough to stand out in it !! The rain was too heavy to even contemplate walking back to the station so we jumped on the player's coach home and witnessed countless cars marooned/stranded in giant puddles on the A40.
Mike of Wetherby, if that was you, I salute you Tim, sort your life out.
The result ? oh, we lost 1-0

Yes Mike of Wetherby is indeed the reincarnation of Mike of Banstead. I remember that Chalfont game also because I think mine was one of the last cars to get through the A 40 before it was closed for the night. As some of you will have noticed I made my first visit to Imperial Fields for 2 years for the Peacehaven game and stayed on for Carshalton. I think there is the making of a useful team which, hopefully, will at least challenge for a play off place and match last season'@s FA Cup run . This is a good day to tell you that up here I support Harrogate Town whose 4-0 win at Telford today took them into second place in National League North. They are an ambitious club with a chairman who has invested plenty of his own money in ground and team improvements. Gates are not very good compred with the likes of Stockport and FCUM but we do have a very noisy yellow/black army of hard core fans.Looking forward to the FA Cup draw for both my clubs on Monday. Maybe one day we'll meet - Harrogate were knocked out by Hastings 3 years ago. In the meantime: COME ON YOU STRIPES!.
