Ron Springett RIP

Sadly it was announced today tha Ron had died at the age of 80. He kept goal for QPR and Sheffield Wed (Div 1), and also for England. He was capped 33 times and was reserve GK for the 1966 World Cup, but never played. Ron was not that tall for a goalie, but his agility was second to  none, and played some outstading games for his club and country.

Why do I  menton all of this, those older supporters they may recall Ron playing in goal for QPR in 1956, when they played theTerrors at Sandy Lane in the 2nd Round of the FA Cup, where he made some great saves..

Re: Ron Springett RIP

As you say Mikem not big in stature, but big in heart, in those days height was not the important factor it is today, remember the Sunderland keeper Jim Montgomery?
RIP Ron, I am sure a lot of football people will remember you fondly.

Re: Ron Springett RIP

My old Mum reckoned he had "nice legs"........but then again she told me I had 'footballers legs' so perhaps she wasn't the best judge.

                                         RIP Ron
