A Stain on the season so far ?

Took the Mrs to see back to back homes games last night with expectations. Dominant start and early deserved goal but as the half progressed had the gut feeling that Staines would equalise......and they did. Second half, best say politely, very disappointed. Having only been to a few games this campaign I don’t have the right to complain or compare with this seasons performances thus far .Thought the Staines manager was entertaining with his verbal rants which must have worked. Enough said.

Re: A Stain on the season so far ?

Have to agree, last night was very poor against a below average team. Looked like world beaters for the first ten minutes, but the remaining eighty......
Think we only had three shots on target the whole match.
Need an out and out striker urgently.

Re: A Stain on the season so far ?

We,ve needed a dependable goalscorer for years, but a proven striker costs money, which our ever shrinking budget won,t stretch to.

We,ve had a few one season wonders over the last few years. Who was the last real predator we had. Paul Vines ?

Hi Andy Mc, the great Nicky Glover from the mid 1970,s Tooting and Mitcham squad springs to mind as a pacey predator especially with his runs from the half way line when booted up field by the keeper !!! Great memories !!! Great goal scorer !!!

Re: A Stain on the season so far ?

I have watched all the pre-season friendlies , home games and a few away because I am out of work. Any team would miss one of their best players in Coleman and I think we are really missing him now.
For me we seem to of lost our identity at the moment. At the beginning of the season when we had Haddy leading the line with Danny Bassett and Junior or Diddy we was pressing teams high. We would attack with 7 players breaking a neck to get into the box and we looked unbeatable. Last night we had players happy to sit in front of the defence all night and for most of the game only 3 players trying to attack the opposition box with 7 players behind the ball. Even we when we was a goal down players just stood their not attacking. I was finding this really frustrating. Our only tactic last night seem to be pumping the ball to Conner who battled and wrestled with their centre backs and got a cut and a black  eye for his troubles. We did not try and push the wing backs up once and when we had the ball at CB and hit the corners flags. Every time Connor did win the ball ( which was more often then not)  the other attacking players are so far away from him then he is left with too much to do alone. Connor is a quality experience forward and if he is to be a success ,we might need to change the way we play and get the ball down the line and let Connor attack crosses. With someone like Danny B playing on his shoulder. We just need to find our identity again. Maybe put Alex at LWB and play Zac a little further up the pitch in a 3? On a positive note I think Simmo played well.
A position I am concerned about is the right wing back. George did a great job in pre-season and maybe had a bad game and he has now been  dropped from the RWB position. Even  in the cup games he has played at CB. I was pleased to see Sham playing for our first team again. For me he is a real young talent. He was loaned to Banstead to regain his confidence and score some goals . To put him in the RWB position when he his normally a striker I think is a big ask. For those that do not know him he was the under 23’s leading goal scorer last season and  despite missing two months of it.  Maybe this is a position we need to strengthen with Ajuni leaving the club.
Another concern are our corners. Do they work on this in training? The quality of the delivery needs to improve as it rarely goes near a Tooting player and we also need to have blockers and attackers. I can not remember us scoring from a corner this season.
I see Wedgy’s dad was behind the goal again last night.
In our managers I do trust and I am confident they will get us onto winning ways again.

Re: A Stain on the season so far ?

Some good points and I hope the mini home form slump ends soon. Remember we are still unbeaten away from home in the league.
That said, the pitch has taken a battering from the weather in the last 2 months and of course the amount of games that have been played and are to be played in the coming weeks.
I wonder if that was a reason for the amount of long balls being playing against Staines in the second half?
It's plastic on Saturday and time to find some form again.
