Hopefully Stefan didn't have to endure Tuesday night. Ummm, maybe a tad harsh - Tooting weren't awful....but weren't great either. Simeone is one dimensional but very solid. O'Brien looked good again. Coleman can only be in the team for sentimental reasons (or is it for his long throws now?). Looked lightweight upfront and the keeper looks decidedly dodgy. Tooting just look like a small and slight team (which along with not scoring goals could be a recurring problem over the season). Appreciate it was first game of the season but beaten by a Redhill side who looked frankly bang average.

Went to the Vale game last night optimistically expecting Tooting would get thumped, but....they played really well. 25 minute kick off delay due to goalkeeper issues but the young lad who played for Tooting had a great game.

Tooting rode their luck a bit but scored a fantastic edge of the box top corner winner. Defence was well organised and team spirit looked good.

Vale looked pretty ordinary last night - huge credit to the boys for a very good win.

Any insider knowledge on the departure of the coach?

Seems like particularly bad timing to lose someone with huge coaching experience with one friendly left before the season starts.

Did something happen at the Croydon game or something been bubbling for a while?

Couldn't see anything on either Twitter.

Certainly neither saying I like it or dislike it - just curious as to the mechanics and reasoning behind it.

I mean I like football and I like Italy as a country but I don't think that qualifies me to be Chairman of AC Milan.

Assistant Manager to Chairman?

What's the story behind him leaving and coming back?

Should we be preparing for another departure and leap up the pole after the election?

That's good news to hear more are coming and Simeone and Coleman are definitely "club men" which is always very helpful. Also, they will I'm sure have a positive impact on the youngsters.

However, as said before firepower is going to be key to any ambition of play offs or better.

I think we did really well to keep Shay as long as we did especially in view of Farnham saying they were "regulatory monitoring" him during the season.

Ummmm. Whilst I admire your optimism, losing Brennan and signing Coleman and Simeone hardly seems like a huge step forward. Take out Brennan's goals from last season and I reckon we'd be another 14 points down as well as heading for the worst goal difference in the division. Undoubtedly elements of romanticism with previous Tooting connections but not exactly pace and movement a plenty particularly with the prospect of playing alongside Penfold.

That's without mentioning only winning 1 of the last 11 games this season.

Apologies if I sound slightly grouchy (although I prefer realistic) but i'd much rather of read we've re-signed Dan Williams.....or someone else guaranteed to hit the back of the net with regularity.

I guess it comes back again to club ambition....which is why I'm guessing the wonderful Shay opted for Farnham.....someone on the up rather than perennial water treaders.

Just read that Kingstonian have signed ex-Walton goal machine Eddie Simon. Plus getting in a very experienced and well connected manager. Ks were so awful this season they made us look like Man City in our relegation season.

Sorry - back to the question....

What do we need to do? Simple - (funded) ambition.

Interesting to see that sadly groundless Kingstonian have managed to make a high profile appointment of the ex-Walton and Hersham manager which in turn should attract a number of decent players. Certainly not suggesting we should be looking to replace JB but it's interesting that another club in a precarious position has made a bold move forward where as us with a fabulous stadium might be planning to tread water again.

The bog end were (as always) outstanding today. Loud singing, great humour, a conga - the full works

Ok, so not the result anyone wanted to see on the pitch but as a game it didn't actually matter. We were bad and I would think Farnham only got in to second/third gear a couple of times....

However, in true Tooting spirit it was great to catch up with people for some good laughs and banter.

Top of the shopping list? A new guy in a green shirt, please.

A manager with huge passion but little experience. A very limited playing budget.

What was the realistic expectation at the start and during the season?

After four games scoring for fun and playing genuine champagne football - probably winning the league at a canter.

After the slump in the middle - back to back relegation.

More recent run of hit and miss....mid-table mediocrity.I

Without significant investment in the team, is anyone brave or optimistic enough to go above "mid-table mediocrity" for next season too?

I can only revert to my most hated current cliche "it is what it is".

Good luck to the Ks - I don't quite get the Vale thing (It's closer to Kingston but still Merton) but wish them well.

Great win tonight. Was a pretty full on terse and tense derby with plenty of snap and snarl.

Story of chances tonight. Shay has three in the first half and scored two. They had two free headers and missed both.

Saw the red card near the end but having had a player count up we had 8 outfield players at the end?

Saw the sin bin earlier on but did I miss another sin bin or a second red?

Obviously we still have serious self discipline issues, but.....

Unbeaten in 2024 😁

Jamie certainly has/had the credentials as a non-league player. But as a manager? I really think that is a wait and see. The anti-Adkins et al sentiment seems to have stopped or at least has gone underground. One of the happy miracles of Tooting is that however badly the team is performing they are never (well, apart from at SCR) given stick by the fans.

I (along with others) was at Raynes Park Vale today. Awful ground. Dead atmosphere. But a consistent set of players with huge self belief who are realistically looking at back to back promotion (although they didn't look like it today..).

We are lacking height as a team. We are lacking flair. We are lacking organisation on the pitch.

Maybe we are a lucky 90th minute winner off another purple patch. Let's hope so.

However, surely everyone can see the "champagne football" , switching from side to side and scoring for fun in great to watch matches early season has disappeared.

What has actually changed to cause such a dip?

Well, who's going to be the brave soul to provide a list of positives from today?

No leadership. No height. No organisation. Passion from probably four players.

Only scored from a very soft penalty. Created little to nothing playing bottom of the league.

I may have misheard but I thought the crowd was announced as 225? Did 100 people spend the whole game in the toilet? Lucky them if they did...

No wins since the end of October and today was just embarrassing.

Yes, the manager may not be paid. Yes, we may have trouble recruiting players. Yes, the playing budget may be low.

But surely now even the most blind optimists must realise "The Emperor has got no clothes on"?

Appreciate it was 96.64% gloom and doom on here last season but many more posts/views/ opinions.

Appreciate the season started well but might be now heading for distinctly average (50/50 making the playoffs?) but I'm a bit surprised how quiet it is on here now?

Any general summaries on the season so far? What do we need to improve?

We got there in the end today 😁

First half was pretty dire but those magic moments from Brennan. Again. He's just absolute class. Silly sending off - was looking on the cards for a while and would have saved by a substitution. Sheerwater were better than I thought they'd be. A decent and commendable win today.

Not only did it finish 0-0 but it was an absolutely atrocious 0-0. To play 11 minutes over I could only think the ref was playing golden goal which might have finished by Wednesday afternoon.

No idea what's happened from the start of the season with free flowing six goal thrillers and passion and performance.

Coleman seems to have lost his bite. Obviously missing Brennan. Few injuries.

Although saying that, still only 2 points off a play off spot

Totally agree with Andy Mc that we are still leaps and bounds forward, just curious how it went wrong yesterday after smashing Guildford?
