When everyone is fit and available, I would argue that we have a good team

                                                        Ross
               Jelley       Hamlin        Daly          Belford           Wedgie
                                           Waters            Rooney
                                                         Rose
                                            Dixon             Deontay / Williams

What's my point? That all hope should not be lost, though it's been a bad start.

That was my first game since lockdown. Thoroughly enjoyed it (undoubtedly partly due to just being able to watch live again) and the atmosphere and crowd were encouraging. Seems like a fair few younger and new faces, possibly roaming fans given the current circumstance (and the fact it was an international weekend) but encouraging nonetheless.

I thought we were defensively solid enough, given that I can't quite remember the oppo troubling our keeper at all, other than the penalty.

I thought the 10 on our side (Jake Rose) looks a classy player. Finds pockets of space and links play well, plus seemed to always have time and space on the ball - good movement and technically gifted.

The two strikers that came on in the second half definitely improved our attacking impetus.

I would agree that we need a left sided defender. Not to shoe-horn an old player in per se (wedgie) but moreover to give more balance to the side. Plus Jamarie Brissett could be utilised further up the field as he's dangerous in the final third (and right footed).

Great to see Tom Jelley back.

Overall I was impressed enough to gauge that we should be challenging at the top few spots of the league, but we lacked a certain creativity in our forward play. Looking at our results I can see we've conceded very few in the league so far - which means we're defensively solid and organised. If we can find some more attacking flare and goals, we'll do well!

Thought we played ok, though less smooth than we usually are in attack. The pitch made the game a bit difficult to play on the ground, though that’s no slight on whoever works on our pitch, it’s that time of the season where the weather causes bad conditions.

I thought the pen was a definite pen, granted I was sat in the stands so quite far away. He beat Deano and then deano made a rash challenge. I judge by the lack of complaint by Dean that he was guilty of the foul. Shame to give away a goal so early as that had us on the back foot and meant they could reliably sit in and break. We just couldn’t reliably break them down often enough.

Thought our best player was Zak Coleman. He looks to go from strength to strength and looks powerful and direct in attack.

I thought they defended heroically, and their back four played very well.

Hady should have got his shot away quicker when through on goal.

Unfortunately with only one automatic spot this does give a small advantage to Hanwell, but a long way to go.

We miss Rooney in midfield. Is he injured or unavailable due to hols?

I didn’t really rate Gareth Chendlik when he played for us, but I thought he was very effective against us today. Is a young lad so probably improving.

As I mentioned in my post, I think Nathan Daly keeps his place. In fact, I don't think you distrupt the back three as they are. We are hardly conceding many goals so why change? Simmo gives us strength in depth and puts the three starters under more pressure to keep performing well. It's a healthy challenge to have.

Also, Simmo provides cover for when someone like Sol gets suspended - which does happen! Instead of Rooney dropping back into defence, which he is very capable of doing, Simmo plays there and our midfield remains as strong as it is. When Rooney drops back in to defence we have a weaker midfield in my opinion.

It's a good challenge to have. I welcome Simmo back, even if he starts on the bench.

Antonio Simeone has rejoined. A great move for us. Strength in depth in defence now, and a natural left footer to play on the left of a three (where Daly, as good as he is, sometimes looks uncomfortable distributing out - though to be clear I still think he's a starter for us).

Interestingly my takeaway would be that whilst a very very even game between two teams who wanted to play football, in my opinion they were slightly better than us on the day, both in terms of possession and chances created.

But credit to our lot, clinical and resolute throughout. It could have gone either way at 1-1 and Danny's goal put us in front when i thought we were under a fair amount of pressure.

I thought the right wing back that we had in place of George played excellently (my apologies for not knowing his name - Jamarie perhaps?). Great goal to open the scoring and also worked very well as an outlet when we were trying to get out of defence. Very impressed; especially if this is another one of our youngsters coming through.

The scoreline is slightly flattering given our third was a breakaway goal after their keeper came up for a corner in the last couple of mins.

But, you can only beat what is in front of you and we did just that. Credit to Whyteleafe who also look like a good side in a similar vein to ourselves.

He was still a naughty boy for getting a needless second yellow. before that point he was actually playing really well.

The first yellow was well deserved and necessary, as Zak Coleman played a backpass short that put us in a spot of bother. A professional foul to stem their counter-attack. The right decision to bring him down and pick up the card.

None of us know what he said for the second yellow (I assume), but the fact that it was for verbal makes it unfortunately a needless suspension and put the win in jeopardy. Glad the team were able to battle through and take all three points. But I must admit, if we'd have drawn or gone on to lose with 10 men, the blame would lie firmly at his feet.

He needs to reign that side of his game in, though part of me thinks he can't.

Daryl got a lot of needless suspensions last year, but I feel like he has learnt from that (and openly admitted he's working on that side of his game). I think our club captain Sol needs to do the same.

Home tie against a lower opposition would be great. Failing that, any home tie surely?

Our home form and atmosphere has struggled in the past, but i genuinely think the team take encouragement from our home support and the pitch this season (which was an excellent surface on saturday) so I think we should try and create either the underdog atmosphere at home if we get a side from higher up, or we dominate a lower side at our impressive ground.

I don't like to heap praise on a few individuals when frankly the whole team deserve praise for all playing out of their skins, but I must say that Danny Bassett and Rooney were excellent on Saturday. Dom was also his usual industrious and committed self - the ground that guy covers!

When Rooney (my man of the match) dropped back into central defence he won literally everything in the air. He was exceptional.

Brilliant win, very proud of the side.

I hope they do not get enough credit, from a selfish point of view, all of us supporters know we have a couple of gems as a management team, but the more people know about them the more opportunity for them to be taken away from us.
No let`s keep it to ourselves and enjoy it while it last`s.

I don't think anyone is saying advertise it to the world. But within our own fans on this forum (which I can't imagine any other fans/clubs really bother to read) we should give credit for a good start.

I can't see any reason to worry with managers being poached, at the end of the day we've only had a good start to the season and there is a long way to go, nothing has really been achieved yet. Win the league and do well in cups and it might be a different story. For now we're safe!

Well said endo. Great post.

We're quick to criticise when things aren't going well, but quiet when things are going well.

Well done to the management team. Things off the pitch seem rosier too, social media and fan attendance at games to name a few.

Hopefully Sat vs Dorking can bring in a good crowd with an all surrey tie and the attraction of the FA Cup!

Looking forward to how our boys perform against higher level opponents. Glad we're at home!

I agree, we looked good!

I thought the right wing back George was outstanding, provided width and pace in attack and

DMG has always been a workaholic in midfield, but i'm starting to see his distribution and link play improve as well.

Sol PB worries me at times, but he's a good captain and leader and one of our more experienced heads.

I think we'll have harder challenges to come, as I didn't think Ashford were up to much, but you can only beat what is in front of you.

Keepers distribution could do with some improvement.

Formation looked well balanced.

Agree that the subs bench is strong. A.Beckford and O.Hibbert looked strong from the bench.

One thing I'll never understand is when some of our fans get disgruntled and moan and groan by our passes across the back and into midfield and then back again. You have to build play this way. It's the modern game, and the longer you have the ball, the longer the opposition are running around expending energy. Which means when you do decide to break forward, you do so effectively and with the oppo already blowing. We did that really effectively yesterday. Shouting 'FORWARD' by some of our fans is a limited view on the modern game.

Forgot about Daly, think he'll start at one of the CB spots.
We may end up playing 3 CBs...Daly, Sol and Dean, with the new right wing back (George?) and maybe Alex Felipe at LWB. Both will be required to get up and down the pitch as WBs. Ajani definitely starts when fit in my opinion.
I think we'll then having DMG and Daryl in central midfield, with a 10 just in front.
Then I can imagine it'll be Bassett and Naby H up top.
5-3-2 or a 3-5-2 depending on how you look at it!

Not wholly unexpected, but still fairly worrying. A) because it's still so early in the off-season, more departures will surely happen. 2) it means rebuilding

I would be surprised if higher up clubs were looking not looking closely at Saidou Khan. He was outstanding for the second half of last season.

With Jones, Bassett, Wedgie, Simeone gone - all experienced
With Ilic, Odoh, Folarin all gone - a lot of our future talent

Whatever way you look at it, we will have another rebuilding start to the season, which immediately puts us at risk for the top few spots whilst players gel in.

A shame, but i'll end as I started; not totally unexpected.

Worth noting Chertsey who won the FA Vase final at the weekend vs Cray Valley Paper Mills.

Chertsey side containing ex-terrors and starters Jake Baxter, Kevin McLaren, Quincy Rowe (got MOTM) and Sam Flegg.

Anyone watch? Very entertaining. They won their respective league outright too I am lead to believe.

Surely we're still in with an outside chance of making it? Let's say we win our last 5 games (which is all we can control), all against lower half opponents, which should be doable, then we've done all we can!!

This is great to read besty.

I  must admit that i've noticed and felt that the mood around the club on match days is pretty good all things considered. I've noticed some new faces, the crowds seem to be fairly steady for our home games (which has to be seen as a positive given we've dropped down to poorer league) and the football on the pitch at times is very watchable, with some great youngsters, and a squad who in my opinion, really do care about playing for the terrors.

All the above is great given the fact that if you look at things objectively, we are probably not where we should have been (my opinion: play offs minimum).

But given the past bitterness and vitriol that has been witnessed in and around the club in recent seasons, things seem to be fairly calm and stable at the moment.

It's just my opinion, but it's good to see.

Judging by the lack of responses so far, I think everyone is probably feeling similar - sheepish, and that this ends our play off challenge for the season.

It's such a shame as I thought we were much the better side until we gave the penalty away (poor pen to give away) and from then on they saw an opportunity as we self-destructed.

As good as Coleman is for our club, he's turned into a liability with 3 red cards. He's off the pitch suspended more than on it. That needs to stop if we want to have any chance of doing something next season.

How ironic that the game that effectively ends our play off challenge is also the game that we've played some of our best stuff in.

Disappointing.

Two points dropped in my opinion, especially in light of playing over 45 minutes against ten men, and considering they are the team currently occupying the final play off place.

Penalty was a very poor one to give away with seemingly no real danger and a lapse in concentration from Ajani.

Winning our game in hand will be crucial. We also don’t have that many games to go, 9 by the looks of it.

Our form is solid in terms of an unbeaten run in the league, but sadly we’re not picking up 3 points as often as we should if we want to be in with a play off shout.

Today I thought we were solid without really creating enough. When we did create we needed to finish better (Leon’s golden opportunity for one).

I think Sadou Khan continues to grow as a player and is typically the best player on the park whenever I watch him.

Any idea where Dan Summers and Isiah J were today? Presumably both injured if not making the squad?

Wasn't there unfortunately, and had totally missed the fact that we were down to ten men, so with that in mind; excellent result.

How long were we down to ten for? and was it a deserved red?
