I remember Mike. He used to cycle from Banstead to Sandy Lane for home matches. If my memory serves
me right, he was nicknamed Yash - presumably after the Russian goalkeeper, Lev Yashin.

Another of the great 1958/59 Terrors team is no longer with us. I have heard from his son, Ian, that Albert passed away on 19th. September. It is now only the " baby " of that team, Tony Slade, who is still alive.

I have been in contact with Brian's son, Tony. He may be able to attend the match v Spelthorne Sports on the 23rd.
He really is appreciative of the tribute to his father on the club website and is going to read this at the funeral.

Another of the great 1958/59 team is no longer with us. Alan passed away in July of this year at the age of 88. In two spells at T & M he made 71 League appearances scoring 19 goals. He played in all the FA Cup matches in 58/59, scoring twice in the 3-1 win in the 1st. Round Proper match v Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic and once in the 2nd. Round Proper match v Northampton Town and played in both 3rd. Round Proper matches v Nottingham Forest.
There are now just three of the 58/59 FA Cup team still alive - Brian Bennett, Albert Grainger and Tony Slade.

Thanks for the kind comments about the book.
I have recently been in contact with John Robertson, one of the finest players to have played for T & M.
There is a possibility that he will be at the reunion on 1st. October.

My third T & M book will soon be published. My two previous books were " Tooting On The Move " ( 2002 ) and " We Woz Robbed In '59 " ( 2018 ).
" The Tooting Terrors In The '70s - A History of Tooting & Mitcham United FC, including FA Cup successes - set to a background of social events of the time " ( to give it its full title ) is a season by season account,152 pages, with lots of photos. and memories from old players. Cover price £ 15-00. It will be available in the Club Shop or by post. I am hoping that, around the time of publication, players from the 1970s will attend a match at Imperial Fields.
When I know the publication date ( hopefully, in the first couple of weeks of September ) I will post more details on here,
Jeff Brooks

Hi, welcome to the forum. I am sure that I have seen footage of the Swindon Town replay. A few minutes were shown on ITV's News at Ten that evening. I will investigate and post on here if I discover anything. I have recently spoken to Alan Ives. He is 70+ and recently represented Surrey in the Over 70s age group at badminton ! My reason for contacting Alan was research for a book I am currently putting together about T & M in the 1970s. The research has been delayed due to the pandemic but I am hoping to publish in a few months'  time. Newer members of this forum may not be aware that I have written and published two other books about T &M  - " Tooting On The Move - A Farewell To Sandy Lane " 2002 ( sold out ) and " We Woz Robbed In '59 - Tooting & Mitcham United's epic 1958/59 season, set to a background of local events of the time " 2018 ( cover price £10, copies still available - contact me on brooksjeff18@aol.com if interested )

A few years ago when I was researching for my book, " We Woz Robbed In '59 - Tooting & Mitcham United FC's epic 1958/59 season, set to a background of social events of the time ", I had a number of enjoyable telephone conversations with Ray. I have a copy of his 2018 memoir, " In Safe Hands ", which includes a chapter on his time at T & M.
My book is still available - 113 pages, lots of old photos etc. , cover price £10-00. If interested please contact me at brooksjeff18@aol.com

I see that Lexus has been released by Reading and Abraham has been released by Charlton Athletic.
It will be difficult to get a contract with a new club at this time. Returns to T & M ?
Anyone know what is the current position with Hady Ghandour's trial at Charlton Athletic ?

This is a big improvement. Congratulations to whoever is responsible. But I agree that results and match reports need to be on the site. These are posted promptly on the club's Facebook page but not everyone uses Facebook.

Does anyone know the details of the deals that have taken Jones and Folarin to Middlesborough and Odoh to Charlton Athletic ? I believe that Jones was on a contract but not sure about the other two, Are there transfer fees, sell-on clauses etc. ? It looks like friendly matches were included in the deals but these now seem to have been cancelled.

Because, in that scenario, Dave, the South Central Division would have 20 teams, but the South East Division would have 19 teams and the North Division would have 21 teams. When you factor in the geographical locations of promoted and relegated teams it simply doesn't work, for example, to say Essex - therefore must be North Division, unless you want divisions with different numbers of teams.

The FA Ground Grading regulations for Step 2 ( National League North and South ) state that " the minimum capacity is 3,000 " and " the minimum covered area is for 500, of which 250 must be seats in one stand ". Also that " by the third consecutive season of membership at Step 2, clubs must have at least 500 covered seats ".
The Wikipedia page for Dorking Wanderers states that the Meadowbank capacity is 2,000, as did the Non League Paper in an article about the new ground.
I think that a crowd of 2,000 at Meadowbank would make for uncomfortable viewing. I assume that they have been given a deadline of 31 March 2020 to get the capacity up to 3,000. Seems odd that more building work is necessary in a new ground. Re the 3 year requirement for 500 seats, maybe they are banking on being relegated back to Step 3.

Enjoying your blogs, Steve. Keep them coming.
In your latest , you state that Isaiah Jones has signed for Middlesborough but I have seen nothing official about this. How long is the contract for ? When does it start ? Is there a transfer fee ( I believe that Isaiah was on a contract )? Is there a sell-on clause ?
Anybody know ?
