Thanks for that, I hope not too many people have left already  - but - there’s games everywhere tonight.  Tadley Calleva up The Spelly, Raynes Park at home, in my area Hornchurch v Concord and Redbridge v Grays Athletic.  Still a fair bit to choose from.

Tempted to go up the Oakside, last time I was there was 10 years ago with the Motormen playing Erith & Belvedere, attendance 26.  I’m wondering what the Balham v Met Police LSC turnout will be like on Thursday….

Edit, RPV off….and no trip to the Oakside either….

Have we all given up as a club ? I obviously haven't been to a game since September I think. I said August before but I am sure it was September.
Has everyone just had enough?
Is anyone there?
I see Marcus Whittaker has left will he be missed?
Is everyone excited about tomorrow home game?
Do the fans deserve a higher budget so we can attract 4 or five seasoned isthmian players after last season?

Hello Gary, yes I agree since we finished in the Isthmian the forum is very quiet, for me I only rarely get to games so don’t have much to report - but I do drop in.  I think the Google info sheets Anthony posts for away matches are a great idea and can see the effort that goes into the podcasts too.

I did however manage to get to ‘The Spelly’ last week but couldn’t hang around as long as I wanted - a domestic situation meant I had to leave straight after the game.  There were a few people about thought, several old faces and to be fair I enjoyed the day out.  Tell you something, they’ve got an excellent clubhouse.  I could have quite happily stayed on there for a bit.  Hopefully a chance for another one soon, I’ll have to keep an eye out……

The Barmy Bog End Army » RIP AlanJ 'Ashtree' Richards » 01/1/2024 5:17 pm

Hello Boggie, gutted to hear about Alan, very much one of the old guard and on Christmas Eve too.  I remember very well the Ashtree and Cricket conversations on here and Alan’s enthusiasm at the ground.  I see what you mean, when you think of Joe and Geoff as well it’s a very sobering picture.  All top blokes.

Hoping Alan’s family are as well as can be with this happening during the festive season, thoughts with them at a really hard time.

Cheers Alan, been a real pleasure.

True Story: I know as much about horse racing as I do about Thermo Nuclear Physics.....absolutely fcuk all. About 6 or 7 years ago I was in William Hill's putting a bet on the football and noticed there was a horse running later that day called Willard. One of my best mates is called Willard so I put £5 on it to win. The race was over the jumps somewhere and I think Willard was about 10/1 in the market. He was going well and was right in with a shout until the second from last fence where he fell and broke his leg and they shot the cnut.
That was the last time I ever put money on a gee gee.

I have a very similar story about the Grand National in 2012.  I don’t like the GN, it’s too long, got too many runners and isn’t safe, but I ended up doing it anyway after I saw a horse called Sychronised talked up a lot.  I made various bits of money here and there over the day and staked a lot on him each way, the end of the story is exactly the same as yours, couldn’t make it up

I don’t care what the footballing gods have done Boggie.  Look at this….I mean look at this.  Do you remember that Loose Chips horse a few years back?  Well he’s got his own one now, and it won the other day.  If you click the link you’ll cry (like me):

I was, but I got locked out of the account and couldn’t reset it as it was set up with an old email account that similarly I can’t get into.  Despite this the old account is still going on the forum so I had to choose something else.  I do find the idea of The Golden Shot amusing so went tor this.

Thanks Boggs and I’ve replied, good man you are.  This is what non-league is about, the decent characters and company.  When I get the chance to get to a game I’ll be grabbing that opportunity very tightly with both mits

Now for all the haters, nay sayers and doom merchants to come out under their rocks.

Let's see who is first to comment on this thread.

I’d probably be counted as one of the above but after seeing your friends being treated so badly I reckon most could get a bit grumpy.

Apart from that, as I’ve said on another thread it’s been a mare here.  No chance for games, I wanted to do Horley and wanted to do tomorrow for the Alton game.  Both non-starters.  Mr. Boggie japes about the wife and day release etc - thing is, it’s not a joke.  I’m continually being monitored and while it’s all presented as a nicey nicey family lovey production it’s anything but.  It’s high level manipulation and mind teasing of the highest order.  It’s complete mental bullying.

That’s why I can’t post much and even when I got cross about AB last season it was better than dwelling on the drudgefest I see every day.  Olay!

If I had it my way I’d be the one out sparko on the banks of the Wandle, waking up with the realisation I’m covered in my own urine and excrement, sadly I don’t get the chance to get so excited anymore

You know when Tooting are doing well the forum stays silent.

Well, yes - I’m guilty of this having not had much time or anything to add really.  The summer holiday has been a right nightmare juggling things about for the kids with my wife’s job and my work.  Couldn’t go to Jersey, couldn’t even get a couple of friendlies or midweek ones in.

The other thing with this forum is that when you’re short of time, it’s not easy to catch up.  There’s a 10 minute posting limit so if you want to reply to a few threads/people quickly it doesn’t happen.  Coming back and posting whenever you can makes it all disjointed and you can forget where you were with it before.

I’m still pretty disappointed the CC website still hasn’t got fixtures beyond this month (except the north division) and my next avenue is Horley on the 28th.  However that looks like it could potentially be a mare with an 11.30 start and an odd route from the station involving estates, alleyways and lots of twists and turns.  At least Thameslink provide a better train service than the hourly one that Southern ran.  Finish time will be nice for an afternoon pint though.

Thanks for the posts, especially those about Jersey (Boggie) and glad to hear the trip was a roaring success!

Just a quick question, are there two versions of Tooting Belongs To Me? The instruments sound different to what I recall on the intro.  Also, is there a full version of it anywhere online, I haven’t heard the song since it was new so it’s great to hear it on the podcast.

Well yes : ))   Made me chuckle Andy.

Good suggestions there, I remember Mike M saying the car park lighting was nonexistent on evening games, that’s got to be worth looking into.  Looking at it we’ve got two Tuesday evening games at home in quick succession, Balham on the 15th and AFC Croydon on the 22nd - shame the CCL website only covers August so far…….

Welcome news and completely the right thing to do. Financially it might not make much difference, 2 quid does not seem much but some fans will stay away if they think they are being ripped off. More fans at 8 quid versus less fans at a tenner will maybe work out about the same.

Agreed Andy and at first when I didn’t see a reference to refunding season tickets which had already been purchased I did wonder whether any had been sold.  I know exactly what you mean about the numbers and reckon the attendance/revenue on this price will work out better.

I’ve got ideas on the match day experience but not sure everyone would agree, things like this:

Bring back the tea bar, get rid of The Shak.

Find a buying/staffing model to make drinks cheap in the bar.

Hold a ‘Saturday night club’ for a few hours in the bar after home games.   Could feature things like meat raffles, darts tournaments, quizzes, cribbage, dominoes etc.  Could even extend to open mic events for jokes etc.

Announcer for the day.  A chance to announce a match while being guided through by someone from the club.  Features a fee and deposit.  In the event of any bad language or inappropriate behaviour the deposit is forfeited.

Introduce a marked designated parking space for the referee.

Introduce a ‘Golden Goal Deluxe’ in tandem with the main golden goal.  £2 a ticket but features consolation prizes either side of the winning time (made up example but say prize is £60 with consolation of £20…..golden goal is on say 57 mins - £60 - so those with 56 and 58 pick up a score).  Also GGD based on last goal scored to keep up interest until the end of the game and avoid confusion with regular GG.

A different song for fans to sing at each match, with lyrics printed in the programme.

That’s a starting point anyway!

withFurther to discussions with our new manager, Jamie Byatt, and the Members Club, we have decided that given the change in our League and the general financial situation in the UK that is would be a welcome opportunity to reduce our current admission prices for the forthcoming season.

As a result Adult admission prices will be reduced to £8 for all home games this season, including the pre-season friendly against Dulwich Hamlet.

Adult Season Tickets have also been reduced to £128. Concessionary prices are £5 and U18's will receive free admission.

Thanks for posting DaveM, I’m quite taken aback by all of this, reducing prices, offering a feedback link and hoping to make up lost ground?  It’s certainly not what I was expecting.  Looking at PPs site there’s a mention in refunding the difference if anyone had bought a season ticket already

Lovely to see some old school faces (!) here, Mitchell you’ll always be the Bacofoil boy, Geoff, what can I say - a bloke who played Tony Osoba and Boggie - now we’re reaching for the oxygen mask.

I’ll speak to Mrs Plumpton/Bernie as I might have an avenue to get out there the night before (dependant on work and if any accommodation is left) but it’s really very much on her.  She’s the cost controller in this neck of the woods as I’m completely useless.

I hope to pull this one off

I can’t find the date on that but I’m guessing it’s the promotion run in 2017.  It certainly looks familiar.

I’d be interested to see if/how the £10 tickets align with the playing budget.  I can see that being a bit ropey to be honest.  If we start getting to attendances of around 50 it won’t work.  Better to reduce to £7 and get 150 instead, and no, those estimates aren’t pie in the sky, it’s the sort of thing Step 5 pulls in.

Not shooting the messenger but it’s just a reflection on the awful situation T&M is now in.
