Jake Baxter notched 31 in his first season in 15/16 and Dan Summers got 35 in his first in 14/15.

But Vinesey got 42 in his first season in 06/07.

Hastings got 34 in his first season in 04/05.

But the king of them all was Webby who smashed 51 in his first season.

Before that Daubney got 39 in 82/83.

Nicky Glover got 32 in 74/75 but may not count as his first season as he played one game the previous season.  Same with Ives who got 34 in 72/73 but played a game the season before.

Going back, Colin Johnson scored 30 in his only season in 66/67.

And of course Bob Parker scored 34 in the first season after the war - so depends if you include war time football in your stats.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Tooting 1 Horley 2 » 18/12/2023 12:56 pm

According to my 2 neutral pals we had slightly the better of the play.  And thinking back, I don't think Horley had a shot.  But then we didn't test their keeper either.

Another aspect I noticed was that we only had 3 players who played in the return fixture at Horley.  I think Horley had 7.  And of course, Horley have been together for a number of years.

So unfortunately, we are still an unsettled side, and despite maybe having more talented players, didn't really have any cutting edge on Saturday.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Fun memories » 13/11/2023 12:34 pm

I think the worst defeat that I can remember was the 7-2 at home to Chatham.  But the most embarrassing game was the home game against Wealdstone where we couldn't even field a recognised keeper.

The Barmy Bog End Army » FACup » 05/8/2023 6:51 pm

I understand Penfold had a slight knock - as did Hutchings. They were both there though. Cisse was missing as was Sol. So that is 4 central defenders out. So Lewis and a new face James Smith stepped in although I don't know how much football they have had. They haven't played pre season with us.

Colman also went off with an injury and from the look of him won't be playing Tuesday. Orisatoki also got a knock and would have been subbed if we had any subs left!

Don't forget that Newham have already had 2 league games and last season they finished 6th in the table - at step 5 - the same as us. And they have a gun striker who may be playing pro later this season.

So taking all that into consideration a draw wasn't too bad.

But 3-0 up we got the daft 2nd yellow and really failed to block up the middle of the park.

So was it a good result? Well, that will depend on Tuesday!

How about this one?  Probably my favourite game that didn't end up in a victory.

And what about this classic?  Only 2 teams beat Yeovil at their old sloping ground that season.  QPR and Tooting!

Just seen a message from Michael Rootes who informs me that former Tooting physio, Danny Keenan recently passed away at the fine old age of 96.

You will be pleased to know that the figure for the Bedfont game is incorrect- it should be 119. So yesterday is a new unwanted record.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Alan Viney » 14/10/2022 9:23 am

Never saw him play. But from this clip it seems he had a decent left foot despite being an inside right!https://youtube.com/clip/UgkxkfKvBamhgvnTXJ1A2ALC3sKEG1ayunKz

The Barmy Bog End Army » Observations/questions from today's game » 04/10/2022 9:11 am

I managed to ask Nicky Glover about the double sending off at Hitchin many years ago.  I was there but I didn't see the incident.

Anyway, Nicky wasn't happy as Jack Payne seemed to be pushing him out and he was on the bench for the Hitchin game.  Apparently Danny Clapton was getting a bit of grief from the bench throughout the game and I think Nicky was chipping in.

Later on Nicky was brought on.  He received a short pass from Clapton and returned the ball straight back.  But it seems as if Danny Clapton just let the ball run out of play on purpose.  There were words between the 2 and then a headbutt and then a couple of punches.  Obviously the rest of the team steamed in to break it up and Billy Smith told them both to shake hands as he realised that the ref hadn't seen anything.

But out of the corner of Nick's eye he saw the linesman flagging furiously and told Nicky " I saw everything..."

And that was that - 2 reds!  (Not sure if there were actually cards back then).

The Barmy Bog End Army » Roy Agar » 29/9/2022 11:42 am

This came from Ian Bullock: Roy Agar I remember him well - fantastic forward and England Amateur International whilst with us. Great character and a good lad who used to speak to the crowd during the games. Got to know him well in his visits to Imperial Fields with Colin Norcott and Ian Wigham.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Roy Agar » 29/9/2022 8:30 am

I didn't actually meet him.  I occasionally put up some historic pictures or stories on my Twitter and sometimes I get responses from old players or families etc.  In this case I put up a message about the day the floodlights were first switched on when we beat Arsenal 4-1 - and Roy scored twice.

I have spoken to families of Ray Secker, Ron Howell, George Edwards and a couple of others this way in the past.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Roy Agar » 28/9/2022 6:51 pm

Had a bit of contact with the son of Roy Agar today. Sadly he told me that Roy passed away in 2020.

Roy was a bit before my time but was quite a character by all accounts.

The Barmy Bog End Army » John Langford » 27/8/2022 8:29 am

Don't think he was associated with Forest. Going from memory, he was our reserve team boss in the mid 90s. He stepped up into the 1st team about January 1997 when we were really struggling and Trevor Ford got the boot. He couldn't save us from the drop and Jimmy Bolton came in as player manager for the following season. However, John stayed with us as some sort of General Manager. An early forerunner of a Director of Football I suppose.  That didn't really work out either and Bolton only lasted for a season before Keith Boanas came in. I think John also doubled as groundsman over the few years he was with us. But everyone thought he was an absolute gent.

We have just heard that ex Tooting manager, John Langford, passed away today.

No news either way on Dontai Stewart.  But Mike Dixon played for Chipstead the other day.

The Barmy Bog End Army » Danny Twin ex Toot Passed away » 23/6/2022 12:48 pm

Has anyone got an old Tooting shirt that they could loan to Danny's wife next week.  I think she wants to create some sort of display with shirts from all the teams Danny played for.
